Follow the above suggestions of white curtain over wardrobe, replace bedside lamps with the taller white shades (I love the rope design given!) and change over big black cushion to white, and lower the three pictures 10 cm to fit inside the wall space given by the door frames. Make sure the doors are painted white as well as trim. Then put red lamps either side of TV - changing them to battery candles instead of electric. Change the TV antenna to one where the antenna is hidden behind a photo frame (buy from Dick Smiths I think). The whole section under the mantle and window sill including the floor brick ledge, needs to painted white gloss. Around the 'fire place' there needs a better fitting out with a wide white gloss wooden trim and inside needs work to be white at the back. Have blind same as on long windows - alternately have blind white material and put white sheers in front over long windows. Replace the two baskets to a lower wide basket with one big pot plant that leaves a 200cm gap in height from top of 'fire place'. Maybe the baskets could be further along in the corner on the brick ledge and floor under the window and have a small pot plant or vase of fresh flowers above on ledge. Hang a large red patterned fabric on the wall behind the ladder (starting slightly higher than the door frame and finishing slightly above skirting). Preferably move the electrical point to behind the dressing table or place a basket in front or can the mobile phone go on the bedside table and keep electrical point for vacuuming? Place a heavy, wide white and pale blue striped, cloth over box at end of bed or have upholstered. Finally, have a white background picture - maybe a beach scene - which includes pale blue and a touch of red or pink, above bed. Having silver wall sconces on silver edged oval mirrors either side of picture (centered over end of bed), would be wonderful as they would tie in your style of furniture. Keep the modern white shaded rope based lamps as well. I hope this helps. Best wishes.

Such great ideas here, and love your plans Rhiannon. I personally would keep it light and bright as the dark coloured rug etc will make the room feel smaller and darker. I don't know what style you like, but here's some ideas of light/bright options that would work will with the room as they're not too heavy looking, so will keep it looking open and bright. And I like the idea of going with neutrals for your basics and then adding cushions / statement desk lamp / patterned cushions in your style whether it's more bright colours / boho / retro /pastels /beachy / tribal / even whatever you love from skating to music! Maybe tell us what you like / are into so we can give some more creative ideas?! Also think about wherever you move and indeed move out into your own place eventually, you can take the neutral basics with you and easily completely change the look. And think about versatile pieces for this reason too. e.g. an Ikea Frosta stool ($11.99!!) makes a great bedside table, can be extra seating, a side table in your future lounge room etc. You can even paint them easily to suit your style. If you're after other styles and you can't find them in the shops, of course gumtree and ebay have amazing finds to add your personality. I have these curtains from Ikea for my daughter's room. They're nice and light coloured, but completely blockout. And really easy to put up (took 5 mins). Then add a simple chair, again Kmart, Ikea or gumtree have super cheap and good quality old chairs that are a great way to add your personality. (first 2 from Target, 3rd from Kmart, all under $50). Though if you're going to be studying at your desk a lot, maybe get a proper desk chair for comfort. The ones below are good statement pieces and versatile so you can take them wherever you live and double as an extra chair when you have a friend. and an ottoman could be handy for storage / as a bedside / or extra seating if you have a friend over. This one's from Kmart too. Then if you have space, how about a plant, Ikea have inexpensive indoor plants, Zanzibar Gems, Fiddle Leaf figs and orchids, depending on your taste. and these great little pots of succulents that would fit nicely on your desk. But if you can't find what you like from target, Ikea have a huge range of patterns for completely different looks that can add a lot of personality to your room. The Ikea ones are really good quality so will last. I had the silver Forsa lamp years ago on my study desk and now my 4 year old has it in his room just as a feature lamp and it looks just as cool in it's new 'life', giving a kind of traditional-industrial look. How much do your like your pelmets? I would remove them. Paint beside table and chest of drawers to refresh it and create new look . You can add a large colourful rug under the bed or any rug you like and get the bed linen to go with it. Couple smaller lamps on the bedside tables or two small pendants above each bed side table. Declutter, take rubbish bin out.

Hello Nick, I can see this differently: why block the north light and sun off the deck and rest of the living rooms when you could do it the other way. Make master and ensuite, robe in the existing lounge as planned, then move the laundry where ' existing lounge' Is written on the plan along from the kitchen: on the south side is great. I do not like laundries thru kitchens but makes better use of the space and especially the sunny side of the block as it opens the north side to the sun in that corner: ideal for a breakfast table in the sun! Then extend out on the south side along from the laundry for another sitting room looking north across a new deck which will service the breaky room, family room and bathe all of it is sun.
