Need Help creating a new kitchen, ideas?
Comments (38)Samantha B I just completed my kitchen Reno in Perth. My pantry was also bricked up like yours. Literally doubled the space by getting rid of it but we found out after that the pantry was structural & we had to put an extra support beam in the roof instead ($800) so be careful of that! We completely moved the plumbing, gas & electrics & it only cost a few hundred! So don't be afraid to do that as long as u know decent priced tradies! We ended up doing nearly everything ourselves & went with a masters flat packed kitchen & sourced our own stone benchtops dirt cheap ($2500 installed for a 2m bench & a 1.5m island each with one waterfall edge.). Heres before & after pics....See MoreI have zero idea about what I'm doing...
Comments (21)Personally I would never get rid of the lovely wood trims / doors as wood is expensive and in my opinion it never dates. I am sure many other people will give you their opinions on what will match with this and that but I would just like to say - select a colour that you like for the walls - a light colour usually works well (even just an off white). Let your personality come out in your furnishings, art, knick knacks. Try to have some cohesiveness to the colour range for each room but each room can have it's own personality if you so desire. Light fittings are amazing these days and if you go to a local light shop you will be able to see the lights hanging from the ceilings / walls and if you ask you may be able to take a couple home to decide what works best for your room. Look at web sites, look in magazines, look in other peoples homes and chose your style. Don't feel you have to be like everyone else... the rooms must be right for you or you will never feel comfortable and it won't feel like home. Good Luck....See MoreDo you have any ideas for this room?
Comments (15)Definitely embrace the loft. Here's a small example we did for a kids bedroom above their robes. The girls love it to read and generally just chill up there. remember to add lighting and light switches (2way is good so you can turn it off without having to get up there) also power points for charging. Kids find a way to make it their space so be flexible. Likewise the remaining floor space let the kids work out how they'd like to use the space. Cool movable bean bag type and stool seating so they can easily move it themselves if they want to move everything out of the way to play or dance/ perform (perfect their tiktok) with regards to the space definitely paint out the ceiling beams and lighten the space up. install a wall of storage to chuck all the toys and think about storage at kid level...low and accessible. You could consider chalk walls or other surfaces to pin or magnetically pin up stuff. If it's definitely a space for the kids think like a kid and have fun. There's ways to be be sophisticated as well that will keep it from looking like a childcare centre. Have a look at funky office fit outs like Google and the like. they have fun breakout spaces that still have a level of practicality. think about ways to blend kid meets breakout space. good luck!...See MoreDoes anyone have a requirements list/tender document they could share?
Comments (7)By finer details, do you mean the aesthetic finishing of rooms eg: skirting board profile, cornice profile, window profile. You have said this is a renovation, with stated only aesthetic changes, not structural. So make a listing of your requirements, then drill that list down. Start from the floor in each room, what type of floor needs installing, what profile skirtings etc etc. what wall finish are you after, what ceiling needs to redone, what cornice profile, what electrical power points need to be installed or removed? Then start on the kitchen, what type of floor is being installed, does the existing flooring need removal? What profile kitchen, what spec of finish for cupboards and bench tops....laminate or stone? What appliances are required, existing or new?? Once you have this list with all your requirements for EACH room, then go to your chosen builders and SPEAK to them so they can cost the work that is required. If you know the level of specification you are after, the builder may have different choices to stay within your budget. Are there special aesthetics you would like included in this renovation...include those in your overview of each room. When you are presented with a contract from your chosen builder, make sure the details are as per your WRITTEN requests....See More- last month
