Converting a study room into a walk-in pantry
Happy Sunday everyone,
we are thinking to convert our study to a large walk in pantry.
I am thinking to block the double door to study and creat a new opening from where fridge is located in the kitchen at the moment. Currently study room is carpet flooring and rest of house is Hybrid Timber flooring. We would like to know your ideas about estimate costs? thanks in advance.

Comments (9)I don't think your current kitchen plan is going to work. Your current kitchen plan may end up a bit tight... how much space between the open dishwasher or oven and the opposite cupboards? I estimate that to be 40-50cm... I think you may end up with a one person kitchen. No need for a big pantry. 2c.... keep the toilet where it is. keep the study where it is. Draw a horizontal line across from your existing toilet wall and chop a big chunk off the living space (or what was the formal dining). The new space is your butlers pantry. Slide the entry door to the right by 60-90cm. Your new butlers pantry is 3.2x2.2m. Put your sink against the toilet wall - and the dishwasher. You have easy access for plumbing with the WC utilities. Then you just need a small sink in the kitchen next to the stove for filtered water and washing your vegies etc. Put your fridge against the toilet wall too... and plumb that in. Comments (13)Louise, I love the door idea on that appliance cupboard pic you shared - that has been a dilemma too so thank you. How wide do you reckon that appliance cabinet is? I'm looking at the second freezer position in my plan - I put it there cuz I reckon it's the siberia end of the kitchen and it will be a pain if the main fridge is all the way up there.... Plus it doesn't take up precious room in a walk in pantry (need room for door to open too). At the moment the back wall is symmetrical hence why the appliance cupboard is a strange 832 wide! Good news is I've minimised (even further!) what's going to be in the laundry (that will be like a cupboard now, but hey a compromise to get a decent pantry) as walk in pantry is much higher priority, so I think I have lots of room for a decent pantry - will post pic once I've drawn it :-)...See MoreDesign ideas for walk in pantry / study
Comments (8)I have been planing my new butler's pantry for a while and here are some of my favourites. My space is 2.8m x 1.5m (L-shaped). I am having 450mm wide bench with open shelving top and bottom on the long side (maybe one row of open drawers like in first photo), 650mm wide bench at the end with sink and cupboard below. I also have a small alcove on the left which will be used as a broom closet (easy access for spills). In your case I would run the bench and overhead cupboards from the window, along the right hand wall and back around to the door. You could then have a study desk under the window with the natural light. You may also have room to put a fold down ironing board cupboard all alternatively put in a pull out ironing board in the bench that returns near the door. Good luck!...See MoreStudy or walk in robe?

11 months agoAs an after thought and without all dimensions, I would look to use the study the following way, open up the wall near the sink swing the cooktop with stone benchtop around next to the sink, not sure where the stones join on the back walls you may need to add a patch a Grahame
mentions or use laminated timber from Bunnings. If you can't match floor tiles I also suggest using timber flooring within the new pantry. The old pantry would make a great coffee station giving access from other spaces ( your fridge appears too deep for this space and is even too proud in it's current position, could it be recessed further into the new pantry)
