What a great big room. The ideas are endless. Not sure if you live in Melb but I would get professional help. Honestly it doesn't cost a lot and you have peace of mind. For the painting go to any paint store, even Bunnings. They have the ph nos for a paint colour consultant. (I went with Dulux) but most Paint companies now have colour consultants to come out for a fee. The consultant comes out for a fee approx.($150) but that was for a few rooms. Then if you buy their paint, the price of the consultation is deducted off the paint you purchase. So really the consultation is free, if you choose their paint. Freedom decorator consultant works the same way. Can't remember how much (no more than $200) and she gave me great ideas. If you buy anything from them, again it's deducted off your purchase. There is no commitment with either paint company of Freedom to purchase from them. The advantage is, you can have the amount spent deducted from purchase. Honestly it cost saving and you get professional advise. Win Win situation. We've built 3 times and painted the house myself, and I have been so glad I did the above, with both paint and furnishings.. Plus I do up my own furniture, (most bought at garage sales) so I only purchased what I really wanted from Freedom, the rest 99%, I got from op shops and did up myself. But the ideas are helpful. Honestly, you need to know what decore you want in your room? So they will work around that. If your unsure, they will look at the rest of the house and work with your ideas. I like French provin. So I worked around that, Just to give you ideas you don't have to spend a fortune. My bedroom is also huge. Haven't took photos all-round. I redid all the furniture in both rooms. The above cabinet was brown stain which I painted white. GOODLUCK

EXAMPLE #1: L-shape, Table & Chairs, Remove Bench for Fridge and More Counter * Your Back Door: where they have large ceiling to floor window. * 1st Counter Along Window Wall: counter top with sink under window, and upper cabinets over counter on either side of the window. * Turn to Right Side and Create 2nd counter: put your full stove where this picture has a cook top. * Removed closed wall so your kitchen is open to the hall. * With this expanded "wider" space that combines with the hall, you can put a round table with four chairs. (Almost where they have their "counter island". * In your diagram, to the left of the door is your bench. If you have a table & chairs in the "wider" space, could you remove the bench? * On the wall where the bench was: a. put a fridge, b. build a counter with cupboards overhead. ********************************************************************************************************************* Example #2: U-shaped Kitchen In this photograph, beginning from the left-side corner: * Back door. * Fridge (theirs is built-in / too expensive for me / just put a fridge with freezer). * 1st Counter: Your sink under window. * Right turn: 2nd Counter: Stove (they have stove-top and built-in own below). * Since a full fridge & freezer is beside the door, you can use a longer counter to the right of the stove. * (Ignore their sink in this picture.) * 3rd Counter with cupboards below and above. * Remove bench. Along the "removed bench" wall: a. buy an "island" on wheels with chairs; b. when you are alone you can use this table-top for large cooking projects; c. use the island and chairs for eating; d. use a chair to change your shoes coming/going into the backyard. ******************************************************************************************************************** EXAMPLE 3: L - SHAPE * Remove lift-top freezer. * Keep sink under window. Have counter on both sides of the sink. * Counter on the right. * On this second counter, put stove (they have a stove-top and built-in oven). * Remove the wall so the kitchen and hallway are combined. * Move the fridge against the Bedroom #1 wall (on the kitchen side). * On the bench wall. Make the bench smaller so it will fit under a kitchen table. Use the table top for food preparation. When you have company, pull the table away from the bench so you can sit on the bench and use the table. With a small bench, you can put a table on this wall. Build the bench in a U-shape. Put baskets or wood boxes underneath to keep your boots and shoes. This table costs $99 at Ikea. When it is folded in, it can be used as a counter-top. So you don't obstruct the back door from opening, you can push this table over the bench. I think you should explore the idea of getting a Pod on the deck. its like a mini granny flat / cabana with toilet and small multi purpose room. You might have the space for this. Your layout looks fine as it is, and if you have a covered pergola, a second toilet in a pod will works well there. I am a bit against adding plumbing and moving walls to your house. First its a mess. lots of putting pipes under the flooring, fixing the flooring again, also ceiling and conrice works, and you end up with smaller bed, tighter layout. Too much sacrifice and not too much to gain.

to remove the whole wall and consider custom storage there are expensive demolition, structural support and rebuilding issues (think $20,000?) that won't add extra space, just rearrange what's already there..whatever the long term decision the unsuitable wardrobes will need to be removed so you could try my suggestion, live with that and then consider more drastic changes that would be equally expensive to restore..an interior or building designer or a draughtsperson can draw up different ideas and a builder or carpenter can do the work but you need to be clear about your budget as a simple job can spiral out of control before you begin redecorating..the key word i considered is "reconversion' and i think you'll achieve a much more cost effective solution by not removing any structural walls ..the computer program i use is called 3D Home Architect Version 4 and is the best simple program i've ever used but it's many years old and not readily available any more but there have been several recent HOUZZ enquiries with answers about other CAD programs that might suggest alternatives..but, for such a simple proposal, nothing better than precise measurements of the existing spaces, graph paper, ruler and pencil and a clear understanding of what's already there (eg are the wardrobes added to the wall or part of the wall, do they reach the ceiling and are they raised off the floor and what style of doors do they have??) some photos could help inspire more suggestions from other HOUZZERS
