The current kitchen looks neat and tidy but here are a few thoughts if that is what you are about to do. I love bamboo floors. Would be good to see what they look like. Some thoughts Structurally are you able to take out the two kitchen walls that enclose the kitchen from the living dining. Leave the entrance wall in creating an open plan living dining with either a peninsula or an island bench with breakfast bar. Keep that area closed from rest of the house as is now to save on your heating cooling costs. Can you locate the laundry into the current mud room and perhaps expand that room - though functionally it is a long way from the rest of house. It may pay to get a building designer to help you. The fee would be worth it. Especially if changing structural features like walls. Court yard - are you able to put a roof over it then you would be able to walk to games room under cover depending how much access you would like to that room and how frequently you would use it. However you would behave box gutters and they would need to be able to take high volumes of rain Good luck and keep us posted with updates. love your Jarrah floors with grey..have you considered paving paint as the cheapest thin grey coloured flooring??

if you can do all the preparation including removing old floor coverings, wash, patch and sand the walls, replace and re grout any broken tiles and dismantle and remove any old cabinets that will save substantially...i would expect the paint to cost about $1000, DIY flat pac kitchen cabinets about $4000, new stove (and rangehood?) $2000, new carpet $2000, wooden floors about $5000 (or DIY vinyl about $2000-$3000), new taps, shower head etc $1000, DIY flatpac laundry cabinet $300 plus plumber and electrician $1000 without changing any fixtures...to have professional painters add $2000-$3000, custom kitchen add $5000 depending on choice of finish...

I’d go with timber or cork. Cork is great in a kitchen. Easy on your feet and joints and things are much less likely to break if you drop them. Especially as you age, tiles cause fatigue if you are standing in the kitchen for too long. Cork is now available in lots of different colours and styles including charcoals and greys that might compliment your slate. It’s not all 80s orange. Of course timber can look great too. Just make sure it’s ok for kitchen use.
