What colour render?

We have just completed a second story extension which has been painted ’surfmist’. We are hoping to render the lower level but are stuck on what colour. We originally thought ’basalt’ but the ai image looks very dark (would it actually be this dark?). Windows and trims are monument.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks so much for all of your replies! We’re going to go with monument. The ai photos have changed the carport slightly so there isn’t actually a place to put timber without blocking the light at the front door so for the time being, will leave that. Thanks again for your input!

Why not use Surfmist? If you want a dark colour use Monument. You don’t want to have a house that is a patchwork

I agree with bigreader - either the same colour as extension or the same colour as windows and trim.

why not colour match the whole house..it looks like the extension has the same gable decoration as the front of the house and all white with white windows or white with black trim and windows would both be timeless and your floorplan looks excellent and your proposed kitchen with the splashback window is gorgeous but in such a generous room the kitchen island looks too close to the sink cabinets...try a distance of at least 1200mm for a more comfortable work space

Hi Kate, 3 birds renovation gave me the idea and products. So far the paint is holding up well and we like it. I was a lot of work, but much better than the brown frames we had. We still need to do the interior. We also only did one window with the spray primer but as it didn’t go along way we opted for a tin of the primer and it went much further! Great advice about the board. That will definitely help!!

I agree, your mock up looks beautiful, definitely do monument, would look stunning plus any landscaping would look wonderful against monument. It would be a real showstopper.

I actually like the dark option, it looks more interesting and highlights your landscaping better.

It also marries the carport into the house better so it looks more refined.

If you go dark at bottom introduce some more light in the landscape to balance as per the inspiration pics. Kerbs, pots, flowers …

Agree siriuskey, a timber screen on the carport would look fabulous, adding a touch of privacy as well, adding a touch of timber against the dark render would look stunning

I actually disagree with the timber slats, they work with a modern shaped home but your home is more traditional so they will look out of place in my opinion, kind of like one too many elements, if you like the sound of the privacy then add them but I would stick to a charred finish so it blends with the dark paint instead of another contrast maybe like a Shou sugi ban

It’s going to look fantastic, you could also add a bit of garden art, solar night sculptures that look great in the day also, a large planter or water feature in corten steel or something of similar colour to highlight your entrance and look amazing against monument. Can’t wait to see your beautiful house.
