I wouldn’t want mirror to reflect all the stuff on my bench top. And any marks on the glass Check the suitability of glass and ceaserstone behind your stove. Anything glossy will show streaks, both should need a simple wipe down

They all have their advantages, choose what is right for your lifestyle.

Stone if your budget can afford it.

I like glass as it is easy to wipe clean and you can choose any colour depending on if you want something subtle or something to make a colourful contrast.

Engineered stone to match benchtop looks nice and coordinated, and it will not be any harder to clean than the benchtop.

I'd be very careful about mirror because it reflects, so you need to think about what it reflects and whether you feel comfortable working in an environment with reflections. It can be toned down by using smoky glass but you're still going to have 'two' of everything.

See how in these pics you see second fridges, duplicated utensils and vases, an appearance of double the clutter, extra windows. Depending on the direction, you might have troublesome glare off mirror from a window. I've seen a few lovely kitchens with mirror splashbacks but I've seen more which are 'too much'. So I think that's a material you have to think carefully about if it can work well in the space you have.

Thank you all for your advise. I definitely will now not considered a mirror finish splashback. They may look really nice in pictures but as pointed out they must be very different living with one as they reflects everything.
I was worried if Caeserstone SB had staining issues, but it’s good to hear people haven’t had issues with them.
I have had glass SB and also tiles before which I have liked and never had issues with them.
It’s a tough choice as they are all really nice finishes. Again thanks to you all for taking the time to give me feedback and photos.

Congratulations on your new home! Honestly, we usually recommend Caesarstone for splashbacks. It's super durable, low maintenance, and really easy to keep looking clean, even behind the cooktop and sink. Glass or mirrors look great but show splashes and fingerprints more easily, so Caesarstone tends to be the most practical choice for busy kitchens.

I am leaning towards Caeserstone now for splashback as I was worried about their maintenance and appearance (being next to cooktop).

Hi Sisita, yes 200m from the Trivet edge (burner edge), where the trivet can often sit in 80mm or so from the Cooktops edge, though you will need to measure yours for an accurate determination. Usually a standard 600mm deep bench will have around 35 to 45mm behind the cooktop edge but the 20mm Caesarstone reduces this clearance to 15 to 25mm and so from the trivet 95 to 105 (depending on your cooktop model so they can't be used in 600mm deep benchtops with Caesarstone Splashbacks.

So to your question of making deeper benchtops and cabinetry, & "packing". It depends if your Cabinetmaker Kitchen Manufacturer makes custom made cabinetry or uses only Standard Carcasses. In these situations we make deeper cabinetry all along the length so to make the most of the deeper storage. Kitchen manufacturers that only use Standard Carcasses will pack out the back, so it depends on who you are using and your budget.

If you're having gas, from what I hear you need a bigger clearance for the range hood too, so you need to check about that too.

But why would you have gas, especially if ease of cleaning is important to you? Induction is more economical and environmentally friendly, is easier to clean, and looks neater.

Hi Macyjean, we all have our own preferences especially when it comes to the type of cusine we predominantly like to cook and the utensils with corresponding appliances needed. It is almost unheard of for example for Commercial Kitchens and Chefs not to use Gas. It's not for us to critizise someone elses required preferences, different individual preferences, like yours for Electricity is one of the things that make us human.

Of course. I was only addressing maintenance as that was the point of Susita's question, and pointing out other advantages as some people automatically choose gas based on the old idea it's better than the old-style electric cooktops.

I have a new gas cooktop and wish I’d gone induction. I’m not fussed on a preference for cooking. I just didn’t think of making the change at the time.
