Renovating ex housing commission house. Adding some character
Comments (104)Hello Fianou, Congratulations on your charming home. I think it has so much potential. I love the idea of teal, it is fresh and welcoming. I was thinking to give the home some street appeal and to also make it extremely functional. I would see if you could afford to put a wonderful wooden deck out the front, and then I would have window shutters painted teal placed on either side of the windows to give it street appeal, if you could afford to paint the brick I would paint it in a happier white tone with the blue accessory trim on the shutters on each window and also on the roof trim to tie it all in. On the deck I would have flower boxes painted in the same teal colour or whatever colour you choose to link in the whole story. I can see it can be so sweet and charming and a real place to call home. The timber fence at the side would also link in with the decking at the front. Good luck and congratulations on buying your own home ! Woo hoo !...See MoreRenovating and extending a 1937, 2bd house, Perth
Comments (37)Good on you abstar9511 for choosing to Renovate! I've personally gone through a renovation in the last 18 months and it is worth it. From the pictures the house looks to be in fairly decent nick for a Perth original, especially one by the beach with our salt and winds. If you choose to update the gardens at a later date, Planted Passion is happy to quote on a resilient garden design and installation for your properties' weather/soil/aspect conditions. Personally, I can see a Cottage Garden vibe which would like stunning, especially with the inclusion of some Hedges for beach wind protection. Good luck with the reno!...See MoreOptions for privacy (blocking out a neighbour)
Comments (26)I'd go for the higher privacy screens within your own boundary. Get a car junk yard to store some old crushed car bodies on piled high on top of each other for 3-6 months to create the screen. They will be au fait with safely securing them. They may even pay for the temporary space leaving you with enough money to later build a truly aesthetically pleasing barrier, something like that big reflective glass barrier to her if she doesn't move! Hopefully she will decide to move when that is all she can see. My dad actually used this strategy successfully with a problem neighbour in the past! Meanwhile have a chat to a lawyer. We have one of those problem neighbours who complains about (non) barking dogs and gets her kicks by watching us put out washing. She now looks onto my chicken coop and thought it was a dog kennel. It makes me feel like going naked when I tend the chickens to give her something to really scare her and having a heavy metal rock band rehearse regularly in my garage. It is horrible to be overlooked by a neighbour who is so problematic and likes to use your family as her reality television set! Do check with a lawyer about her possible trespass onto your property. My guess is she used Round Up on a windy day!...See MoreHelp with layout: Small cottage with extended room
Comments (19)Thanks for sketching that, oklouise! I did my best there but... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ A couple in early 30s. Small budget $5k, so looking for layout ideas for rooms and creative design ideas. For example, we already filled the gap in living room as suggested by bigreader - it looks amazing - thank you! I also replaced the black knobs in the kitchen cupboards with white knobs, which blend in with the cupboards and the whole space. Small, cheap, but effective. Climate: Mediterranean. 3.5km West to the beach. Current questions: Bedroom layout (wardrobe ideas?) Curtain ideas? - Colour, textures for each room. We are painting all rooms a neutral white. Extension: Lounge area (L-shaped sofa, TV) at the North-East corner of room. 6 seat dining table in the middle. Maybe a study desk on the other side. Long term plans: Do something with the bathroom and kitchen space. Any ideas you might have for anything, open to hearing...See More- last monthlast modified: last month
