Black tapware wear and tear: what’s your experience?

Hi everyone, I’m updating my bathroom with a minor facelift and love the look of black tapware. However, I’ve noticed at friends’ places, and even in some showrooms, that black taps often chip, flake, or show wear.

Is this a common issue regardless of brand, quality, or price? Or does the finish type (e.g., powder-coated vs PVD) make a big difference?

Would love to hear real-world experiences and any tips for choosing durable black tapware/brands.

Black tapware already looks dated. I have recently swapped some out in a house that I bought. It wasn’t worn, it just time stamped the bathrooms. I didn’t have to do a full bathroom redo, just got rid of the black tapware and associated fittings and a bit of paint and voila!

Definitely invest in good quality black tap ware if you want it to last, I have a number of items in different rooms and they have all worn, chipped and flaked. I will look to replace with a higher quality because I do love the contrast that the black offers

We have two kids; they have a grey fabric couch in their play room, and we have a black leather couch in our lounge room. The leather is far easier to look after than the fabric. We clean it about once every two months with a leather conditioner and it's still lovely and soft, with no signs of cracking!

Hi creativelychallenged, I'm pretty sure all the tiles are faux-marble from Beaumont Tiles. I've used them in bathrooms and they are cost-effective (from $40sqm un-laid) and look beautiful. Marble and now faux-marble is a classic look so not prone to dating. You may have noticed its recent popularity due to the faux-marble now available as the average homeowner may not have the budget for real marble. People worry about decor 'dating' - think about what you love, what will make you happy to live with - decor doesn't last forever because our own tastes change and decor can suffer from wear and tear. Choose what you LOVE and you can't go wrong :-)
