Have you considered the colour of the aircon, even painting the wall to match so that it doesn't stand out.

I would check the make of the aircon to see what colour they have used and if it would work with the cabinets as we know very hard to pick colours online. Our Panasonic inverter matches with our wall colour Resort White, which I think is Dulux, but could be other and is a cool white/beige.

For a beautiful look also painting the walls antique white would look stunning with the cabinets, and vivid white window trim for contrast would look beautiful. You could always remove cover of air con and take it for a colour match at Bunnings or Dulux.

If using a light grout which is prob what will suit your kitchen you can consider export grout, more expensive and limited colours but easy to clean, or you can buy grout sealer to apply after the tiler has finished.

Julie all those beautiful tiles are making me think of going a more cream colour and leaning into the antique white instead of away from it. Then dressing it up with kettle/toaster/plants etc

Cate, I think it will look absolutely beautiful with a light tile, and painting the wall antique white as well, then dressing it up with colours of your choice, that way you can always have a beautiful light kitchen and change your decor whenever you want.

I think that might be the way to go. I love love the colour but conscious of locking a colour in. You cant tell from the pics I sent but it is all one room (dining and living) so need to have a bit of flex.

Hi Everyone! Thanks again for all your advice! Tiles going in tomorrow!! I have one last question…subway tiles…:stacked in a line or laid like bricks. Am as I am leaning into the dream look am thinking brick style will break it up and give texture and interest?

It is a personal preference. Stacking can look more formal, to my mind high end, brick more texture . If very plain tile - base range, brick can look cheap. Hand made though can up the look, In my bathroom i did brick pattern for texture but had long tiles with undulation (a little above base price but not hand made). So it doesn’t look like a subway bathroom. Again there is no ‘right’ answer. Go with your gut.

My vote is stacked. I also like stacked vertically but do a trial layout to see if you like where the part tiles would be. If you do go brick pattern, have a look at 3/4 and 1/2 brick. To avoid a toilet look a lighter grout would be more modern.

A matching grout definitely would look best.

I am nearly there with the tiles…final decision…the grout! To go with City Edge Vanilla Gloss and Antique White cabinets I am thinking Ardex Misty Grey? It will give some contrast went being too clashy?

I love white grout, but if you love the Misty Grey then go for it, it’s a personal choice and your kitchen and it’s what you love that’s important .

I ended up going against advice and went brick layout and I love it!!! I was home when the tiles were being installed. We started with stacked but it just didn’t look right. Brick looks great and I also went with the Misty Grey grout which worked beautifully.

So I have gone from hating my new kitchen to loving it. It looks elegant and calm and works so well with the floorboards.

Lessons I have learned:

• don’t have a meltdown until it is finished
• proper research at the start will save a LOT of time and indecision and sleepless nights down the track
