The pop out the side ie option one is a common solution for adding an ensuite to an older house. Have you okayed building to the boundary with the Council?

Haven’t gone to council yet but hoping it would be ok given the neighbour has done it on the other side of the fence

Can you confirm that the K/L/D extension is built and completed? And it costs nothing to ring Council. The neighbour having done it is a good indicator but no guarantee that they did it with all the paperwork.

Yes K M L is built. The professional plan attached proposes to extend that area to the boundary and add a walk in pantry laundry

On the opposite side to the ensuite pop out idea.

I’ll give council a call. Assuming they say it’s ok, just make sure it’s setback etc. I’m sure it possible to fit a small ensuite in and walk in robe within. Area is 1.9m x 5.5m

Because the neighbour has already built to the boundary you may find that you would need a box gutter for both extensions?

If you had a choice of doing the pop out versus the design which is shown in the professional plans (extend other side out from kitchen) what would you do

Pop out means we can chip away in stages and so bathrooms now and ensuite later

But we don’t want to go out overboard and spend too kuch

your preferred master bedroom is cramped by the need for a doorway between bedroom and the side extension but made to look like a builtin verandah with roof matching the front porch might work but, as you plan to move within a few years, i would prefer to create a more economical master suite with BIW plus ENS and smaller laundry made out of the original laundry, rearrange bedroom door and linen and maybe use savings from avoiding the expensive extension to add a carport and/or bath to the studio that should all be better investment for resale

If you’re only planning to be there for five years and it will take two from go to whoa for what you’re planning then it’s not worth it. Live in it as is and save for your upgrade.

Thanks for the feedback. And wow thanks Louise for the plan. I really like both options and the idea of adding a bathroom to studio - we have thought that for a while.
The location and overall site layout are great so I don’t want to think we will def move. More be smart with costs as we want to we may stay longer and add a pool and double garage /loft at the back (rear access). The pop out ensuite looks great too - I think we need to set it back from the front due to a heritage overlay. But it would still work just has to move down a bit and move the window for bed3x you have done this before!
