Really think about the storage you need for everything you have for kitchen from appliances crockery pots cutlery pantry etc. work out where they will fit in new kitchen. Whilst I love s as. Island does that option have enough storage?

Bigreader - do you mean to make the island wider as well as longer? I'm worried about it being tight as people walk down past the kitchen island to the back living room, so need to figure out the ideal space needed (considering also that a door opens into the walkway space).

Siriuskey- the total length of the kitchen/living/dining is 10.3metres, width is 4.4m. Flooring is timber except in the European laundry (which is 1.2m deep) which has tiles unfortunately.

Dreamer- will definitely have a slider to the bedroom/bathroom corridor. Thanks for the pic.

Oklouise - thanks so much for this detailed drawing. Is that a microwave on the kitchen bench? I had thought a tall pantry could go next to the fridge in the layout - but I don't think you've added one? I hadn't at all thought of extending kitchen cabinetry to the living room. I think I'm so desperate to get rid of the euro laundry I hadn't considered it but it could be really good. Do you think the extra door between the front entrance and the open plan area is necessary? Finally- I've also been tossing up about the laundry having a door vs cabinets at the end. Presumably it's just about prioritising storage? Is the rectangle next to the sink for ventilation? One more question for you experts - the cabinetry where the fridge is- would that generally be 700mm or 800m deep?

Yes , sorry to confuse as you asked about the rear space 10.1 x 4.4.?, is there a bit more space 10.3 in length.

I mentioned the front living room where space has been taken for the new laundry. I think this would be a mistake for your 3 bed 2 bath house with a small kitchen dining space unless you extend out over the rear deck. The front living is another room, living/4th bed which adds value.

the microwave in my suggestion is up off the counter in a wall cabinet, i think tall storage next to the fridge would steal too much counter space near the fridge but you need to decide where you might use a blender, mixer, toaster, kettle etc and do food prep and i would invest in maximum underbench drawers for pantry storage, depending on size of windows.. maybe tall storage beside the dining room windows, consider 1050 x 1050 (not 900 x 900) corner base cabinet that would provide easier access out of sight storage for big appliances...the suggested door between entry and kitchen is instead of attempting to squeeze in the new door to the lounge and the odd shape next to the laundry sink is to show underbench space for tall laundry basket or rubbish bins? ...laundry wall storage could include some pantry supplies and laundry ventilation can be a ceiling vent and great daylight provided by Solar Skylights and, assuming that your clothesline is out past the deck, why add an expensive extra external door that will probably not be used when that space can provide wide ceiling height storage but maybe map out the storage and counter space in the existing kitchen and laundry to help decide what spaces, appliances and locations will suit you best for the way you like to work and.. just realised that i forgot the DW in my original plan

Hi Siriuskey, sorry the front room dimensions are 4.4m width at the widest and 5.8m long. So carving out the laundry still leaves a room 4.4x at least 3.6 (depending on how wide the laundry is).

The space where is laundry is we only really use for shelving, it's a bit of a dead space. While the current euro laundry directly next to the dining table is fairly awful. The back dining and living area also doesn't have great light - hence moving the laundry and putting in a window.

We don't want to extend either- so that's the rationale for the renovation. The house already has 4 bedrooms.

Thanks for your reply. Yes. I definitely need to map out the space cabinet by cabinet. I find it hard to imagine not having a tall pantry cupboard - probably just because I'm used to it.

I see what you mean with the door as well- makes sense.

Our clothesline is actually out the side of the house (currently on the wall where the euro laundry is- the house is a bit sloped so this can stay even with a new window there)- which is why we put a door there. But that's definitely something we need to weigh up- door and ease of access vs storage.

The following is what I was trying to suggest, moving the master to the front of the house with laundry where ensuite is and then kitchen dining family all opening up to the rear. I noticed that you had already considered taking extra space for the family bath from the existing Master. The new laundry would use the ensuite plumbing with the new ensuite using the old kitchen plumbing. Having more dimensions helps to make better suggestions, cheers
