Comments (14)The low ceilings are a limiting factor for choosing colour in this home as you don't want to lower them any further. If handy, raising (or light coffering) the ceiling or part of it doesn't have to be expensive and will add some height, spaciousness and interest plus broaden your colour options significantly. Houzz has some interesting pictures. The wallpaper may have been chosen with vertical patterns to give extra height to the rooms, so dark tones on the walls may have the effect of closing the room even more. Recessed lighting can also help. The carpet looks to be in reasonably good condition so having it re-stretched may eliminate the cost to replace it short-term plus keep the house warmer for winter. When you do, check the condition of the boards to see whether polished wooden floors could be an option. I always suggest living in a place for a year before making major alterations... you'll then have insight into how the house will work for you in terms of light, heat and cooling as well as preferred outlook and high traffic/wear areas. Good luck!...See MoreNeed help with ideas for renovating exterior of our house.
Comments (4)I would relocate the steps to the front. The landing could be the full width of the door/ window space. Possibly extend it right out past the brick columns and place tall pots either side. Stairs as wide as possible. Side gate as high as possible in matching timber? Simple structured landscaping....See MoreDesign idea for my renovation
Comments (18)Hi Amir, thank you. Yes, budgets are usually an issue. There is no real issue with having the kitchen as above to minimise moving plumbing and electrical - I totally get that. I like the addition of an area that denotes an entrance foyer, as in the above sketch. I don't know the style or era of the home, but privacy screens are a great way to delineate spaces without putting up walls. For example, the back wall of the 'foyer' could be a privacy screen and also between the kitchen and lounge areas. Laminex has a great range of indoor and outdoor privacy screens. Also, could you make the kitchen island big enough so you can dine there too? Kitchen islands can be two levels, one for cook and prep and the other for dining - or the same height and use bar stools. I think this also comes down to how you like to eat, whether you entertain a lot and whether you have kids. This could mean you don't have to use space for a dining table or just have a smaller, round table for four in a corner. I hope these suggestions give you some more ideas about privacy and the best use of space :-) Cheers, Penelope...See MoreEnsuite Renovation - Design Ideas - Please Help
Comments (9)my suggestion is similar to Paul's but with a lower counter (built in seat and or towel storage?) under the lower window sill with a 1500 wide vanity and wall cabinet... you could also have the bath against the window and have a freestanding storage cabinet or chair at the other end the vanity and showers ;locations haven't been moved but reducing the entry door to standard 820 would allow for a standard 1500 wide shower and the gaps around the door in the bedroom could be repaired with a wider architraves to save needing to plaster?...See More- last month
