Hi all!Please could someone help me design the main bedroom's bathroom

last month

Im trying to make the main bedroom's bathroom (right hand side of hand) bigger to fit a double sink and bath in there. It just seems very small for the size of the house!

I thought about moving the entrance to the bedroom from where it currently is to the small nook in the living room (appears as having a small desk where it is now). This way the bathroom can be bigger, but i still cant figure out how to fit everything in! Help please 🙏🏼🙏🏼😅

please include bigger room dimensions (or list width and length of each room) and also add downstairs floorplan

Why do you need a 2 sinks. I would use the desk at the master entry as a makeup station to do hair etc so appliances are not near water and the partner can use the bathroom while I’m doing hair and makeup.

I remember years ago being in a similar predicament and someone gave me some mirror tiles - I glued them on the the wall and thought I was very clever. They actually did look much better in my eyes. Try not to spend too much - I think everyone's idea of a shower curtain will all the bathroom colours in it would probably be the best option. You'll laugh about it in years to come and you will love the improvements you make over time. Enjoy the moment, unless you're selling soon your ideas will change after living there, so change when you can afford it - who cares it's YOURS. Good luck, it's so rewarding and so much fun. P.S. now we have a small bathroom, wall to wall tiles, dark grey on the floor and white on all the walls with a large grey tile up each opposing wall, tall mirror over the handbasin which reflects the opposite wall then a full length bath with shower over it. It works perfectly and looks great.

Your mockup scheme is similar to our master bathroom we just completed - photo below. I know you mentioned storage being a concern - our mirrored cabinet has offered an amazing amount of storage in a very small space and also helps bounce light around. I was worried about black taps etc too so we kept chrome fixtures but added in a matte black candle and black potted orchid to create a similar effect which we can change out later on. Our floor tiles are dark but because they are semi-polished they actually bounce around a lot of light and don't make the room feel dark if that is a concern. We also have a huge fiddle leaf fig in the corner (not pictured) which adds a really nice feel to the space - a plant like that could help bring in the outside greenery in your bathroom. Instead of the storage tower you have to the left of the vanity could you do say some floating wood shelving, possibly with baskets added for more hidden storage? You could also bring in the 60s theme with what you displayed on there eg. photos as you mentioned? In regards to the window - a previous house we lived in had a window at about shoulder height in the shower - as well as letting in heaps of light it was amazing for storing toiletries etc!

I've had a think too (thanks to your thoughts @caitlinfurby). Would it work if the bath went down the end beneath the window (handbasin/end of bath currently there). The toilet stays where it is but the wall reduced to a pony wall. The linen cupboard on the right hand side as you enter the bathroom is removed, as is my sons bedroom wardrobe (a new wardrobe for his room can go on the wall in his room against the hallway). That new space is turned into a walk in shower. The cupboard on the left hand side can be widened a bit at that current entrance way to make a new linen cupboard. Around the corner from that, opposite the toilet could be where the handbasin goes or in between the bath and shower? The door can be a pocket/cavity door or just a barn style door to enter the bathroom off the hallway. The current door to the kitchen is actually hinged the other than the plans show but we could just re hinge it the same as the plans show. The first little box area on the plans to the right as you enter the kitchen will have to stay as that is where the fridge is. The window at the end of the bathroom is close to going all the length of the wall...don't really want window sill getting wet from shower hence why maybe bath could go there. Husband wants to have a separate bath and shower. Do you think these ideas could work? Means the plumbing can pretty much stay as where it is too. What to you think??

This is the easiest way to do this! You could maybe fit a separate loo room with double vanities and shower/bath in a room together but this would look far more spacious. The door maybe able to stay right where it is or you might like to centre is with the window. The minute you have ferns, greenery and a feature out in the garden THAT becomes the focal point. @Kate i prefer having my own sink and feel i should be able to fit one in the main bedroom.

My main issue with that area being a dressing area is that natural light would be behind me which is a problem I currently have at my place.

details of whole plan including downstairs can often suggest a range of other options (eg reversing the stairs might have allowed for more space in the master ens for a separate toilet room) but, with available information my suggestions include an alternate entry for master bedroom, rearrange living area, twin vanity and toilet space (may need careful toilet location to allow for bulky corner?) and a wet room with space for a generous shower and built in bath but suggest that you add solar skylights to improve lighting in all small rooms

maybe a better option with a double shower and bigger built in bath and shower seat extended to set down space at the end of the bath

I love both bathroom options

As for the solar skylights to improve lighting- totally agree with you on this if plans allow for it.

regarding downstairs and basement. Ive attached photos below but the staircase is already in unfortunately so i dont think we can change that easily.

Regarding toilet- it sort of looks like there would only be 60 cm of space which is very tight!

check with your designer and builder about the corner obstruction but, allowing for the extra space created by removing the wall between original ens and entry room, the whole space should be about 3850 and enough for a 1200-1400 x 500 wide vanity with matching mirror doored wall cabinet, 900 x 800 toilet space, 1650 x 1400 walk in shower with hinged glass, 1600 x 800 built in bath with glass panel between toilet and end of bath plus about 2200 x 1300 free floor space in front of the vanity and toilet with easy reach for generous towel rails and suggest that wall hung toilet and vanities will improve the spacious fee

no need to change the stairs for enough master ens space although some ground floor space could be included to enlarge the office and bathroom under stairs but have the other upstairs bathrooms already been completed?

Thank you! You're so good at utilising space ☺️

Its currently just the shell so i have the option to move walls at the moment, just think the staircase would be a big job at this point.

I wanted to use under the stairs for storage as there isnt much storage space

This is the whole plan for ground floor.

Ive also struggled with planning the space around the two columns in the reception dining area. Whether it is better to partially block this or not. The plan was to have arches.

Im not overly fond of walking through a bathroom to get to my wardrobe. Probably just not something im used to.

that does help a little but is this a renovation of an existing house or possible changes to partially built new home?? approx room sizes suggest lots of alternate ideas but always depend on number and ages of those who will live in the house, local climate, orientation, size of block, views and how you want to use every room...some ideas include a more spacious kitchen, dining and family room with the central posts used as a feature with opt pantry or alternate bathroom and office....existing enclosed kitchen used as a media room and original dining area could be enclosed with sliding doors to create a quiet sitting area, hobby or games room and the guest suite and powder room could be more comfortable and there's storage added in most rooms

@oklouise this sent me down a rabbit hole 😅. Its a great plan but unfortunately an open plan kitchen would not work for me in this case. I considered extending the kitchen to include the guest toilet space and to move the guest toilet to where the office is (possibly split this space to be a toilet and a pantry opposite?)

I am concerned the kitchen is quite small otherwise

To answer your questions:

-its a partially built home (shell has been built but internal walls can be changed still).

=The aim is for the house to be for a family of 4 with room for guests to come and visit.

-Local climate Hot and dry for most of the year with desert cold short winters.

-Orientation: front of house is East and back of house is West

-I could not tell you the size of the block, i currently only have the plans for the house not the land. There is a decent size garden at the back of the house.

-Its cultural to host large gatherings where i am, hence the large reception and needing the kitchen separate.

- when you say the posts could be used as a key feature? do you know where I could find example of these, the ones i find all look like im in a hotel lobby

always best to have the floorplan that suits your family and lifestyle and if you check photos of columns, posts and pillars on HOUZZ there are numerous ideas that might suit to disguise the necessary structural posts as decorative features keeping in mind that your structural engineer and builder will provide best advice about size and location but decorative affects are limitless....
