That will look great! Having your wall cabinets on the lowest part of the ceiling will make your kitchen look bigger due to the smaller bulkheads, and having a well pronounced island bench with feature island range-hood/pendulum lights will ensure as much attention as possible is kept off the raked ceiling.

Tall overhead doors are quite striking, and I think they always look great. However if your kitchen is very modern the horizontal, elongated overhead cabinets are more suited. Modern kitchens emphasize horizontal plane, extending the perimeter and exaggerating bench space. Vertical heit is lowered to your eye line where possible, giving there space above a sense of open-ness and lift. Contemporary on the other hand allow for these tall doors, and will bridge the gap between a classic new style kitchen with a more traditional one with elements of profiled doors or classic finishes and stone etc.

Do you have a residence above you? If so, your options are limited. If not, the electrician can drill through the concrete in the right place. A plasterer can patch the old hole but you will always see the outline of the patch. If you have the roof height you could frame out and install a false ceiling, solving both your lighting and popcorn ceiling problems at the same time.

Just a thought, have you checked your lovely flooring will persist under new cabinets or more importantly the gap created by the island bench. Possibly put a simple narrow breakfast bar (with power point of course) across a couple of the window sections, lovely to sit and look out of the window and preserve the look and the light. Then you would save some depth into the living space, as the current breakfast bar is quite large and deep.
