Hi arcmaz Great house - fantastic 60's modern look - Harry Sidler (Modernist Architect 1923-2006 exponent of the Bauhaus style in Australia, mainly Sydney) would have loved the interpretation, its a good style, don't change it will pay dividends in the long run. It would be good if there was a plan of the house,and a plan of the block this would allow some relatively accurate planning proposals. If you had the real-state plan with the block plan it would help a lot. In terms of making the place bigger and retaining the style I would suggest that the extension (maybe one room and an en suite depending on a budget) be a block in the today's current style, but linked to the existing house via a "link" (Link =small walkway). This would allow you to retain the style, but not be dominated by a past period, I have done this a few times and it has worked fairly well. If you are looking for three bedrooms it might be best to add a master bedroom with a bathroom, and then maybe living areas with back yard access. There may be other approaches depending on the current layout that could be considered, but I would retain as much as the original as possible, and only make small cosmetic changes until you are ready for a worthy development. First consider views/outlooks and then consider vistas from internal space and also from the deck and position the deck to capture that the best. Re your kitchen, I'd try and locate it on an internal wall to promote outwards/external connection which then would give you more flexibility/options as to where to move in and out of and how you can to the external areas - whether that be double doors or whatever.... Make sure you are clear about outdoor furniture size and how you want to use it and start with that and then adjust the size/proportion of the deck to how you see it best working.......those decisions will be yours/personal as to how far you go with that. I'd also try and avoid fixing an external BBQ set-up where you you have to walk around it - think about flow and movement when you position the elements and consider furniture positioning/orientation as equal importance as any built in elements...I think you're generally on the right track if you want to keep spend to a minimum........decks are not that cheap /m2 either, so try an plan it efficiently to the functional requirements of what you need.....good luck! :)

The burning is probably due to lack of ventilation all around so likely to occur again with same size oven. Have a look at installation requirements before you buy and oven of that size. If you go 600mm you could box out some of the space using the old shelf and use it for boards etc, and a sliding tray.

I can’t tell by your plan posted, where are the doors to your alfresco area, are they big sliding doors, or is it through the laundry? Anyway these are my suggestions. Swap study with powder room and storage room. Place powder room where study is. Nothing worse in my opinion than a guest toilet in a hallway that everyone will walk past. Just doesn’t make a guest feel comfortable. The powder room in study spot gives a bit of privacy. Change placement of laundry hallway door so it aligned with laundry exit door. Place tv unit on deck wall. With a corner lounge or two individual lounges. Add extra wall storage on kitchen wall. Either full height or bench height. One thing I can’t find is linen/general storage area. (Apart from the small storage near powder room) The laundry isn’t showing any decent storage. Unless you make the new study placement a big storage area, thinking Christmas trees, vacuum cleaners, linen, towels, beach towel, etc etc. then find some where else for your study area. Even the spot that started your original question, near the deck, that could be a desk area. For young children and household planners. Older children, from my experience, study in their rooms.
