Kitchen/Lounge redesign
Comments (10)My suggestion: do not remove walls, dining to hall and kitchen to hall. You need separation between bedrooms and privacy for bathroom. Remove wall between kitchen and dining. Remove wall between kitchen and sunroom. Create new kitchen in the sunroom and old kitchen. Utilising plumbing from existing sink area for the new island with sink. Rearrange the door ways from hall into kitchen, so the walk to laundry is in a straight line. I would also keep the wall between lounge to kitchen. Walls are wonderful things for providing places to put oven, cooktop, pantry etc. Converting the sunroom may involve new slab or floating floor, but it looks like a lovely room that would be great to be incorporated into the kitchen. I'm assuming there is a door from sunroom or laundry to outside. I can not see it on your plan....See MoreAdvice on bathroom/laundry or kitchen/laundry combination
Comments (1)you need to confirm all the dimensions as there's some discrepancies in the sizes shown in your plan but my suggestions include losing the linen cupboard in favour of a bigger bathroom with space for full size bath, shower, vanity and toilet with linen storage in the vanity under the handbasin and toiletries in wide wall cabinets over the sink and toilet...there's a sliding glass door off the kitchen to an enlarged deck and a galley kitchen with old laundry becoming a combination laundry and pantry with wide counter for under bench washer and blind corner pantry and space for the fridge and removing only portion of the wall allows for an opening between kitchen and living with space leftover for stove, counter, drawers and wall cabinets and more counter with double sink, DW and drawers on the other side...See MoreSmall house bathroom/ensuite/laundry redesign ideas
Comments (11)@kiwimills I use the lounge a lot, so really not keen on eating into that space. The laundry I really only visit to put on a load of washing or grab the mop (robot vac does the rest) so wanted to pop it into an area where it's closer to the lines and in space that is not being used. Love the ideas though. @Kate yup. I think if you have space issues a dedicated laundry room seems very wasteful for most people. And wasn't there a building regulation that says you can't put them in kitchens in Australia as well? Makes sense to put them where the rest of the plumbing is. I was actually thinking of going for full height if possible to maximise space. Do you find that sliding doors impede your access or frustrate you accessing the laundry? Obviously compromises have to be made, but just wondering whether that ends up being an issue? @oklouise Thanks a heap! The layout of the house at the moment has a hinged laundry door leading to some steep (non-railed!) steps leading to the backyard. I rarely use it for anything except to get airflow into the house, but was wondering if it would be important to keep? Obviously it's about what I need at the moment, but am also considering resale value just in case....See MoreKitchen redesign ideas
Comments (16)Hi Ab,. It's interesting that you mention doing the new living room extension as I find the entrance awkward, ie if the door is hinged on the left, you basically look at the wall and directs you to go into the hallway, if the door is hinged on the right you look into the living room and corner of the hallway. All of this depends on the room dimensions. I think I have it right that you were planning on using the current toilet space as a passageway to access the extended laundry and Toilet?., which will give you a 3 bedroom house with one Bathroom and one Toilet My idea is to keep both Toilets, by turning the existing laundry/toilet into an ensuite and moving the laundry into the old kitchen space which already has plumbing and not only gives great access to the rear garden but for dirty linen from all 3 bedrooms and bathroom. You could certainly have a door from the passage into the kitchen. You haven't mentioned what aspect the house has plus neighbours and any possible views. You also mentioned that the dining area doesn't have any windows. I am guessing that's because you have added the new living room extension by bumping out the front wall of that space which would have had a window? I would consider adding another window in the dining if it suits the above aspect etc. Do you have an original floorplan even better if it shows how the new living actually fits, council should have plans in their files that you can access...See More- 3 months agolast modified: 3 months ago
