What is your budget. Landscaping at front would be good. You could raise the lower roof to the stairwell height.

The lower roof would look great raised to the stairwell height possibly with raked ceilings. The current roof pitch is low.

Not sure how much I would need to budget for that on the single story (left section floor area is approx. 10m x 7m (+2m front verandahs, 1.2m back)). With or without verandahs?

I would keep the bricks, they aren’t the problem. Def add landscaping, replace verandah posts with square wood and paint the garage doors a darker colour.

Thanks @bigreader - interesting. I suppose I haven't previously had plants in front as my block has garden beds and large trees on most boundaries / driveway. But it makes such a difference in your pic.

I would definitely spend money on landscaping and building up the veranda support posts. Bigreaders AI adjustments show how important landscaping is. It also shows you don’t have to spend money in restructuring the roof, just paint, timber for the posts and planting.

And bigreaders changes are keeping the house as it is, not changing it to something it’s not. We did that in 2018 but not now, we are embracing the architecture of the original homes.

Love bigreaders suggestion. Planting will make a big difference.

The house is >20m back from the front fence, so people use the driveway as the path. Previously I was thinking of having a curved path closer to the house off the driveway and a garden in that corner but didn't know if it would add further to the unbalanced feeling.

Will have to play around with it a bit, as landscaping will make a huge difference as suggested. Front is South facing and verandah shades that area so will have to research further. Many Thanks.

I think going with bigreader’s colour scheme would look great, and building up the support posts would look great also, wouldn’t change the construction of the house, and definitely adding landscaping will add a beautiful look. Plant against your mini orb fence, add a staggered path from driveway to front door that will define your entrance, add a feature tree, keeping it simple and beautiful.
