Help with dining room furnishing and decorating
We're looking for ideas to furnish and decorate our dining room.
The room is approximately 5.0m × 3.8m with exposed brick walls, large windows and an wide opening to living room and entry. We would like to create a warm, contemporary space that complements the character of the house.
We're particularly looking for advice on:
- Dining table and chairs
- Sideboard/buffet ideas
- Updated lighting
- New curtains
- Artwork
- Flooring (considering engineered timber)
Photos attached. We'd love to see examples, mood boards, or suggestions for furniture pieces that would work well together.

Assuming the house is 1980’s??? Something like this might be nice. But what existing furniture will you be using and not replacing?

Comments (7)you could have a desk in the corner I presume you have a computer or something like that, and a nice chair , replace the tv unit with something bigger and enclosed so you can hide all the staff you have lying around . Try to get one with lots of drawers it's more practical and it shouldn't be to low , when you're sitting down tv should be straight in your eye sight. Previously the kitchen had a peninsula and there were no bifolds so the room was split and we had a small kitchen and a small dining area. We have this wall here and we’re a bit stuck in terms of should we do a mirror, or prints…or both? I’m probably breaking a million design rules here, especially with a lamp and a floor lamp in the same space but I’m really loving how it’s all coming along. Put together all the ideas you love, your colour scheme, your furnishing, how you want your home to look and feel, look at furniture and lighting showrooms, flooring specialists, rug stores until you find what you love.
