Sharing this because it may help others managing a substantial renovation.
Our kitchen/joinery contractor was Denplex Joinery in Sydney. The project has now continued for around 6 months and involved defects, delays and extensive attempts to have issues addressed.
The main problems included damaged stone benchtops, dimensional and alignment issues in the cabinetry, inconsistent finishes, incomplete works and problems associated with the island construction and stone support.
We kept detailed records, including photographs and correspondence, and obtained independent assessments when the stone problems arose. Despite repeated discussions regarding rectification, the works were not rectified by Denplex.
One thing I would do very differently next time is establish a much more detailed inspection and hold-point process before progress payments, particularly before stone fabrication and installation.
I would be interested to hear how others have dealt with substantial defects where the original contractor has not satisfactorily rectified the work.
