Do all 10 chairs need to be at table all the time or can it be 8 chairs and 2 you bring over from somewhere else for large sit downs? DIAL UP YOUR CHAIR sizes to be proportional to table so, as to not look like child size chairs. Restoration Hardware furniture is over sized and generous proportions compared to many other retail sellers. Just any chair could be easily dwarfed by the RH table and look tiny. Other "host" chair items possible of course. I just like this one.

This looks like a pretty good start but keep in mind that you already have a lot of hard surfaces (tiles floor, stone benches etc) that are going to bounce a lot of sound around that space. The big trick with open-plan living is to try to keep the ambient sound levels muffled and soft. Make sure that you put nice soft felt floor protectors on the feet of everything – you don't want to hear each time a chair or stool is dragged across the tiles. Don't even think of adding a glass-topped table to the mix – every time a glass is put down, a plate is shifted or cutlery moved it clinks and bangs (not to mention that they are the very devil to keep spotlessly clean and shiny and if they're not they look horrible). A timber table does not have to look 'woody' or clash with (or match) the floors – timber can be painted or stained and there are some very classy looking laminates out there that are easier to live with than glass. As others have said some rugs defining the zones within this large room will help to soften both the look and the sound, as well as introduce some colour. I also find the spacing of the pendant lights rather clunky – try spacing lights across the island rather than stringing them out across the full width of the ceiling.

Vivkingsa, I had a similar dilemma and rather similar space for my kitchen. I decided against the butler pantry and instead opened the kitchen up but ran the bench top completely along. I was able to achieve the convenience of my appliances being available to me constantly by having 2 X 3 bi-fold doors (over a metre wide and deeper than standard) which open up to a 'butlers pantry' just behind doors rather than in a separate room. We do however keep school bags (on hooks and have 'pigeon holes' underneath for all the notes etc) at the entrance way so perhaps this wouldn't work for you. Thank you all so much for your time and fantastic suggestions... I was so confused and couldnt figure out how to decorate the space.. Your inputs have enlightened me with so many new ideas.. As most of you suggested, I think I might keep the dining table and add more wood accents to the kitchen.. I am also considering to change the dining chairs. As someone said, i also think its too much black and the lean chairs is making the dining area smaller for the space.
