The bi-fold timber doors I would make because I have the ability and the interest. For the other windows, I don't really have the time, and to replicate the original windows (multi-pane, convex glass) is impractical. I suppose we've chosen aluminium for the majority of the new windows because of maintenance, although we haven't explored the cost of timber ones. I'm beginning to think I should forego making the bi-folds and have a clear transition from new to old. Too much to think about. Thanks for your help.

The photo below is my suggestion for colour of floor. Furniture should be darker - similar to below. For the rug - choose one colour from the artwork and find a similar coloured rug. Don't put a mantle over the fireplace - it could be a health hazard - bumps and bruises. Blinds - unless you want them to make a statement I think white - to match window frames would be fine.

Yes, that's the main point - always a damp mop, NEVER wet. A good product is a German one: Loba CleanFix - it cleans engineered and solid strip floors, among other types. Also, we use a good Sabco wet and dry mop product. It has a fluffy pad for sweeping up first and a "wet" pad (they mean damp!) for mopping with the CleanFix. Works well and the Loba stuff dries without streaks.

If you introduce too many products your home starts to look ity bity, and lack continuity. Continue the flooring in your extension with new timber floors. Sand back your existing floors and stain all the old and new timber floors the same colour. Your renovation will look more contemporary and spacious with the one flooring throughout. Tile the bathroom for elegance and practicality. If you do choose a vinyl plank make sure you purchase extra for the future for damage and more renovations, as they may not stock that product in a couple of years time and you will not be able to match it.
