Paving or exposed aggregate around our new pool?

We need to decide what floor covering to put around our new pool area and we need help deciding as we are not 100% in love with our 2 choices.
We are definitely having an exposed concrete paver around the boarder of the pool, the header course. We are 100% in love with this paver as our border.
We have to decide whether to continue with the paving in the rest of the area (with the same paver) or to put down exposed aggregate concrete around the pool and paver border, which would be a different colour/ look to the paver. There's nothing wrong with that, except we already have existing honed concrete that will be in close proximity to the pool area that we need to take into consideration.
Our problem is this..
Whilst we love the look of the paver we have chosen for the border, we don't necessarily like the idea of paving around the pool in general, for the busy look (lines everywhere) and problems of uneven surfaces, weeds etc. We like the idea of exposed aggregate concrete around the area more but we are unable to find a colour and style that we love as much as the pavers and we are worried that it won't look any good with 3 different materials in a close proximity to each other (pavers/exposed aggregate /honed concrete).
I'll try and add some pictures of the two choices we have come down to and would appreciate any ideas or opinions for either of our choices. Right now we are leaning towards just doing paving.

Comments (1)Hi Amy, Isn't it great! You can paint pebblecrete but my first thought is don't touch it. If you haven't already, pressure clean it to get the true colours. Personally, I'd lean towards the sandstone coloured paver unless there's an overwhelming of grey in your in the stone in your retaining wall (and because I love my high pressure hose, I'd give these a quick go over to check the colour too - what can I say - if I'm dragging the high pressure hose out to do one thing, do 'em all) - only because it's shady spot at some point during the day so the lighter sandstone will keep it light rather than feeling too shady (particularly in winter). Comments (40)Hi Jenny, I'd suggest popping into your local nursery (not big box store). Often they will offer a consultation service where they can come out and help suggest plants that suit your aspect, climate and situation. The other option is to have a consultation with a local landscape designer or horticulturalist who specialises in planting. Check your local landscape association or AILDM for listings in your area. An outlay now could save you $$$'s in the longer term, as well as making sure that what you do spend your money on is going to give you the most bang for your buck. They'll also have local knowledge as to what can potentially become weeds. Just remember you can't plant anything against the fence that can be considered climbable - this can include hedges. Have a look at the link I included above as to what the definition of climbable is. Look for lush and green to link in with the background. Some pops of colour; maybe foliage (eg alternanthera) or flower (bougainvillea or mandevilla) will also help to lift it and make the green more green. Small growing varieties of lomandra may be better than the large one you have there - this could easily be moved, divided and used elsewhere....See Morepolished concrete around a pool
Comments (2)Concrete is a very versatile product with a range of finishes available. I second Penelope's advice above - Mentone Premix have a very good display. I would be careful about polished concrete however. Make sure the surface around the pool has enough traction to avoid slipping. An exposed aggregate finish is a great option. Another product we have used recently is liquid limestone or Limecrete. It is a poured material similar to concrete and gas a great finish. You could also go for concrete poured into large steppers with pebbles or turf between them. It really depends on the style you are after....See MoreAlani M
