What is your biggest property turn-off?
Comments (57)The house was in the best street, the pictures were immaculate... heaps of people came to view ....the moment you reached the front door the smell of curry was so strong that some people started coughing. I was not deterred and inspected the entire house and it was even better than the pictures but the smell of curry was extremely strong in open kitchen area. Apparently it is almost impossible to get rid of the smell once it's that bad without major work....See MoreNeed help designing my bedroom
Comments (4)Hi Lachie - I assume you have a built-in wardrobe on the wall where the door is? (where the photos were taken from?). I'd suggest combining some of the elements of the suggestions above, but orientate the bed so that it's facing the door when you walk in, then put your desk under the other window. You can then put the bookshelf on the other side of the desk, which might leave you enough room for a beanbag/comfy chair in the corner for reading? Otherwise, you can put the bookshelf under the floating shelf (not ideal I know). I'd leave the bookshelf upright so that it's taking up less floor space, and get yourself a beside table (preferably one with a drawer and a shelf below for extra storage). A rug would be great for pulling the space together, but you might run into some issues with your desk chair getting caught on it, so you'll need to think about that. But if you do get a rug, I'd try to match it to one of the blues in your bedspread. Maybe also think about getting a new lamp - something in pink to pick that up from the bedspread (and maybe wood instead of metal to bring some texture into the space). As jmm1837 says, some more art on the walls would be good and will help pull the colours together. I see you have a plant there already, what sort is it? Maybe put it in a small wooden or mint green pot and if you get a wide bedside table you could put it on there (which would put it in optimal light under the window). If you want something bigger which is pretty indestructible, you could try a dracaena, next to your desk would make a nice feature. You might want to think about painting the floating shelf too in white? Few other ideas: cushions for your bed; a throw rug; a vignette of glass/vessels for the floating shelf; if you have space (hard to tell) a chest at the end of your bed (as long as that doesn't mean you walk into it coming through the door) for additional storage/seating; and think about a few plants, not just one if you can. In general I'd try to bring some wood elements into the room to make it a bit more homey. Have attached a couple of quick layout possibilities for fun :). Would love to see what you end up doing!...See MorePutting Green Side of House Qn?
Comments (1)Is the putting green fake grass laid on top of dirt? If so, let the children crawl on it after a rain. Then you could have an 18 "knee hole" course. I did it in my yard and the children liked having lumps and bumps that changed....See MoreWhat type of grey for my glass splashback in my kitchen?
Comments (26)Hi, since your kitchen is small and there's a lot going on I would go with a very light coloured back splash. A very light warm grey as suggested could work nicely here. It would also brighten up the area a little. I certainly wouldn't introduce yet another colour. Introducing something like a bright red will draw attention to the backsplash area, but the design of the kitchen doesn't lend itself for such a high impact visual focus. Keeping it calm and neutral will make the kitchen look more like a unit rather that bottom and top cabinets with a big red/black/maroon stripe through it. The company supplying the back painted glass should either have a range of available colours to choose from, but usually any standard RAL colour should be available at a minimum. They will most likely have the RAL standard colours fan available for reference as well. I'd go with the one of lightest warm grey shades that is in the standard range. Your worktop has warm tones in it, your wall is beige, going in with a cool grey will make each colour look "off". The last thing I'd recommend is black. I know it has been mentioned, but it is just too strong of a contrast and non of the other materials and colours would support such a stark, contemporary choice. If you are worried that the existing dark red paint will alter the colour of your new glass back splash, and that's a very valid argument btw, just paint it over with two coats of white prior to installing the new back splash. I'd do that a few days prior to installing the glass to make sure the paint is nice and dry. In terms of maintenance a glass back splash is probably the easiest to look after since its so easy to clean and there's no grout that can attract dirt over the years. Good luck with the renovation :)...See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
