Bluestone Vs Travertine pavers for pool area
Comments (3)tannietara- Any stone (bluestone slate), travertine, brick, or concrete will get hot in the sun because of the thermal mass capacity of these dense materials. If you do use these them, you should consider lighter colors as they will reflect more of the solar radiation striking them, rather than absorbing it as will darker colors. Travertine may have the edge here, and by its nature is less dense than bluestone slate. You might also consider separating bluestone pavers with intermediate grids of turf (best), pea gravel, or decomposed granite which will break up the mass of the stone and help allow the stone pavers to cool. Comments (6)Hi thanks for the reply, not sure about this one interesting concept. It just appeared that the moment I mention "timber" that I need full detail plans engineer certificates surveyors etc etc and comply with the Victorian building act which does not allow any exceptions. I just don't get the argument that they are concerned about "loading" over the easement surely a 100mm concrete slab is heavier than something like the above image. thanks Peter...See Moreoutdoor area nightmare
Comments (10)Rosie You live in a lovely area That view is very relaxing Make your area relaxing too so you can really enjoy the outdoors Keep the paving, it looks sound and is a good base (Also environmentally friendly, as you won't add to landfill) If you need a change, paint the pavers with paving paint - a light colour will give the illusion of space and be cooler on the feet! I agree with oklouise to add a pergola to cover the paved area Hanging baskets with ferns and colourful flowering plants will add to the scene If you choose to add an enclosed area, you could paint the feature wall a strong colour - Lipstick Pink, maybe ) Remove all the pots and create a meandering path towards the pool, covered with wood chips or gravel Create a tropical border with cycads, fern trees and palms and an understorey of leafy greens - (e.g. agapanthus, bromeliads, gingers) Replace the pots if they are still useful Remember to allow full visibility to the pool!! Style with colourful umbrella and cushions on the sun lounges Move the Webber to front and centre and create a picnic area with outdoor table and chairs Perfect - let me know when the sausages are ready - I'll be there!...See MoreAggregate concrete vs plain
Comments (3)Exposed aggregate is not costly when compared to plain. More expensive p/m2 yes, but not costly. When you consider value for money, I feel that exposed is the best value for money product on the market in regards to horizontal surfaces in particular if it is from scratch. As the comment above reads, you will struggle to find a concreter who is willing to do just 2 steps and also doing exposed on steps is a difficult task due to the boxing removal and retardant spraying process which has to be done just right. If it is just 2 steps, I'd be looking into stone cladding the concrete steps (pavers glued to formed concrete) as it is the entrance to your home and really should be finished at a high level. Not sure if you have existing concrete steps and their condition but it may be an option to look at a company like Alternative Surfaces or similar who can change the look of what is existing. Might be the cheapest way to tackle this....See MoreElite Crete Systems
