Excuse me dear creative geniuses.....I have a lounge room question.
Comments (23)Good Morning! Just thought i'd weigh in with my thoughts for you... I think that for the size of the room, you currently have too much furniture in it - in terms of seating. And the pictures don't quite show - but what is the relationship between the seating and the TV? Personally, I like a sofa and the arm chairs and would possibly consider losing one of the sofas. Pazz's suggestions are great and relevant. I would upsize the rug and purchase it in shades of blue/grey and bring out those colours in artwork and other soft furnishings such as cushions and lamp shades. Also change the orientation of the rug and coffee table to work with the room rather than fighting against it. I'm not a huge fan of wooden furniture pieces except if they are a highlight - If it was my room, i would paint the coffee table and the TV unit - there are plenty of paints on the market that don't require a massive amount of prep work - such as chalk paints. That would also soften the look. Overall - consider how you use the space currently and how that room interacts with the rest of your home as a whole. Good luck! Comments (46)Thanks everyone for your further comments. No problem about it being an old post, always nice to communicate with people about design solutions/problems. Jilly, I posted some photos on 1st January 2016, they appear further up in the post. Garden Beet Pty Ltd, and Morel Construction Ltd, both of your solutions look great, but our problem still remains the western Queensland sun which is pretty vicious on anything that will either wilt, fade or break down. It was quite a difficult challenge to come up with something that was affordable, workable and durable. I would love to have had plants because I believe they soften large "hard" exterior areas, but we have decided that we will do that with pots around the pool area. Still have that to do, even after all this time. :) Thanks everyone for re-igniting this chat. Jilly, hope you find something that works for you....See MoreTime for the vase to go ... what else can I put in the recessed wall?
Comments (84)Absolutely agree with blueskies60 ! Remove the artwork/bench/plant that's on the left and replace then with either a bookshelf or a tall chest of drawers. Perhaps the plant can be repositioned into the corner on the floor where this troublesome niche is (there seems to be more than enough light there for a plant) and just place something calm and simple in the niche itself - perhaps a Japanese style scroll or pen and ink art work set off with a more rounded object sitting in the left corner of the niche; a gorgeous rock, a lovely candle, a calming statue... If you have (my preference) a chest of timber drawers on the left where the current art work is, you'll break up the symmetry, have more storage and have another surface upon which you can place a changing display of objects. This is the area that I would utilise for a mirror....See MoreEmpty space seeking some creativity
Comments (33)I agree with strawberry47 but it just makes it like home. You will have to measure the area first your dining chairs have to sit on the rug fully when pulled out on all 4 sides and then add a bit more for good measure otherwise it will pull the rug every time you want to sit. What is really good option is to go to local carpet place ask them to show you what remnants they have and pick nylon if they have it. Rugs are about 4m wide so you only need about 2.5m and get them to overlook to the size you need . They are usually under$100 for a linear metre. It really won't break the bank. Try Carpet court and places like that. Good luck ....See Moreambersarris
