Design help needed for kitchen please!
Comments (10)Now that's a cook's kitchen, are you keeping all appliances along with benchtops. You said that you were keeping the same footprint, if the base cabinets are still in good condition would you keep them as is and just replace the wall cabinets with Bunnings paintable shaker style in a soft grey and paint the walls the same colour, still keeping the oven cabinet in Beech. At the moment your kitchen has a lot of great stainless steel and wonder why the bronze cooper splash back, trend?, I can see by the photo that the kitchen is a bit dark, so perhaps a mirrored splash back would reflect more light and would look great with the stainless benchtop and the soft grey. If you are not keen on the mirror for the splash back and breakfast bar the white tiles could be replaced with French Country white and grey tiles Beech wood looks great with greys and black & white. I would look at replacing the Stools, Kmart have $25 dollar stools, different colours Lighting, an easy cheaper lighting is to use track lighting as you only need to have the one connection, tracks can be joined and placed in any shape or position where light is needed, like over the sink. You can use both spotlight and pendant lighting with these. PLEASE replace any open corner shelves with cabinets. This would be very cheap to achieve, good luck...See MoreHelp with small, awkward dining space
Comments (24)Wow, thank you so much everyone for all your brilliant suggestions. We own the place and found a way to remove the bars. Knocking down the wall between kitchen and dining is unfortunately not an option. Combining all your suggestions, will: 1. Go for white walls 2. Look into the built-in bench 3. Have a white or glass oval table with less chairs (no arm ones) 3. Change the wall lighting (and a pendant light?) 4. Mirror across dining area 5. Large artwork on the wall above the bench Will post the finished look here after...See MoreAwkward large corridor - floorplan advice
Comments (20)At this stage with a limited budget I'd recommend you sort all the maintenance and repairs work first. Things like stormwater controls not working and dodgy electrical are two biggies. Make allowances for future works so the maintenance jobs don't need to be re-done. As noted re-stumping maybe required. If its going to be a while before major works are to commence give it all a fresh coat of paint inside and out, new fences, etc. Even by doing this you're adding value to the property! While this is happening discuss the design and final budget and formulate a solid plan. It has a lot of potential to extend/etc but budget is key....See MoreHelp with the layout of a tiny, awkward kitchen
Comments (27)Exxy to move the stairs (but brilliant idea!) - so how about take out dining/hall wall and put just one long line of low kitchen cupboards down where that wall was or closer to the opposite side - so you open up all space and see all from walking in the front door. Make either a horse shoe kitchen config with cooker at top end. Then paint all cupboards in same colour - say a gum tree green - and give them new handles. In area between cupboards newly tile or lay a lino floor as easy and inexpensive to do and there are some really pretty decent patterns these days. If you've any money left over or later, boost the lighting with a strip of spots that point to the island worktop, the window worktop AND the cooker. But where is the fridge to go??...See MoreSara Graham
