Need help with our entrance - hardly any wall space
Comments (32)What about one or two artistic small shelves in a darker wood or painted a colour in your rug? I can't find what I'm looking for, but basically a sculptural shelf or it could br a collection of small boxes together with some beautiful little artworks or collection pieces inside. You could also add a drawers or some hooks (stylishly!) to the bottom so you can hang your keys or throw your bits and pieces in the drawer. It would be the artwork and be practical too without taking up floorspace. Light it up too!...See MoreWant to add to a heritage house? Thought of using a removal house?

Comments (11)I have solved this problem by creating more than one seating area in the space which Depends on the size of your living area. I set up a couch - with a good looking back facing the window with the view. I included two adjacent chairs and a small coffee table. The other set of couches and a feature chair are also facing the view but more focused on viewing tv. It is important that you choose furniture on legs otherwise the solidity of the furniture can break up the room too much. Looking at your plan could you hang a tv on a wall on the side of your stairs. One thing I have found with an awesome view - TV becomes less important - 40 inch is big enough - TV size has got a bit out of control! Some other comments - think about placing your wardrobes next to each other to create a sound barrier between the bedrooms. If you do this make sure you put sound proofing between the bathrooms. I note your plumbing location is fragmented which adds to your expense. Will your garage obstruct your view? Think about having a sliding door access from the bedroom to the back deck hope this helps...See MoreWhat is the best facing dimensions of a home and why?
Comments (12)I'm sure there's plenty of confusion about the why's and wherefore's of house orientation. The reality, as I have recently discovered, is that if want to live in an area that is older, developed, close to facilities, you take whatever orientation the block actually happens to be and do the best you can with it. Unless you're out in the country, or buying something in a new estate, you may not get a choice of orientation: we certainly didn't. And yes, our garage does have the best aspect - because there was nowhere else to put it - it had to face the street - but we live walking distance to shops (think of the petrol saved on not having to get into the car), we've got clerestory windows on the west side so no afternoon sun issues, and we're assembling a collection of sails for the south side, where the deck is, to provide shade from the late afternoon sun. Oh, and skylights for the kitchen. No, not ideal. But the location is, and the designers have worked around the constraints of orientation. And that's reality for a lot of us....See MoreLuke Buckle
