Thanks for sharing the pictures. Trust me, I know EXACTLY what it feels like when you mention the stress of doing bathrooms. It is a lot of money and so one wants to get the decisions correct. I think the tones of the bathroom look really nice and because there isn't a lot of light, it looks like you made the right decision in not choosing the darker tile on the back wall. In terms of the floor tiles, I know what you mean about liking the grey, but then I also see a lot of display homes that are doing colours similar to your floors. I like the greyish tones, but then think to myself in 4 years time, am I going to look at grey/concrete coloured tiles and say "yuk, that was the 2016-2018 era. I remember grey tiles had their day also in the late eighties/early nineties. (Gosh, I am remembering now, even the pale grey trousers and apricot or pink shirts the men used to wear then....mmmm). The charcoal colours don't seem to date but then they are very dark in bathrooms that look similar to yours and mine. I hope you had a couple of wines to relax after the bathrooms were completed. :o)

Hi Barry, I personally don't think the large blank space lends itself to a piece of art. It's up too high and contrary to your thoughts, it wouldn't be the feature you'd hope for it to be. Besides, the money you spend on a piece large enough, would be better spent on a smaller, higher quality piece mounted at the correct height (eye-level) that would compliment another part of your home. Getting back to the blank space, have you considered using a timber veneer for the wall cabinets? Something that would work with your bench, and then you could use the same veneer as wall panels to continue above the blank space over the cupboards. Perhaps you could even incorporate led strip lighting to give it a little more wow factor. Timber is great because it adds a layer of warmth to the polished concrete and dark cabinets. I have tried all the suggestions Perini - didn't look purple in real life. Tile Boutique - no purple floor tiles at all. All all the lots and lots of other places = no purple floor tiles. Yes I have seen purple glass mosaics almost everywhere but I don't want small mosaics on the floor. Will also cost $55 sqm more to have grouted than a regular size floor tile. Looks like I'll just have to do boring grey as it's the trend but I have at least found one with sparkles if I can't have purple. I'm also amazed at reactions of the tile sales people - questioning, surprise, snobbery and happiness to be trying to look for something that is different. Cant' say I can't find purple, I have but with a 10 to 14 week wait to be ordered from O/S and lots of $$$ but I need to reno the bathroom by then so can't wait. Motto: If you have time and money can do anything.

It can either look really dramatic or too dark, depending on the size of the room as well as your other components. I've attached a couple of images of our work using dark tiles, the smaller bathroom we have surrounded the bath with dark tiles but then balance it with an extra large mirror to bounce the light around the room. The larger bathroom we have taken the floor colour way onto the wall but used a different texture on the walls for drama. Hopefully this gives you more of an idea but you shouldn't to nervous of the room being dark, it's where you can create a contrast as well as textures.
