What color window frames for our contemporary country home?
Comments (11)@Rachael It's a dilemma, isn't it?! Our house in the bush has ended up with anodised window frames and galvanised iron cladding (i.e. silver that will dull to grey) with a Monument roof. The view is huge and I think the black window frames - while I love them would have looked too urban and have framed the view too much, if that's possible. The view is so big we wanted to look 'through' the windows and their frames. Also, as I said above, dusty exterior window ledges would have driven us nuts. However, if I were in an urban setting, I would have gone for black windows and the dark roof if my views were more intimate. Good luck with the decision making ......See MoreWhat colour to paint kitchen cupboards?
Comments (11)What look are you hoping to achieve? When you say 'update' can you elaborate? This kitchen looks new. Compared to my old Barbie pink, laminate, falling apart beast, this is a dream! I personally would never paint a kitchen myself- especially not one like this. Lots of sharp edges means lots of future chips/scratches. If it is 2-pack poly you could get it resprayed. I can see scope to change the cabinet pulls, add a plant or 2 to the shelves, bigreaders suggestions about moulding are awesome. Even if you got a cabinet maker to pull out the open-shelves and replace them with a timber or timber-laminate as a contrast. All this would soften it and add personality. I can see your roller blind on the window- changing that to a roman blind with a pattern/texture/colour through it would add character too....See MoreHelp! Need ideas for a country kitchen
Comments (18)You can buy the caboodle bamboo kitchen bench top from Bunnings wood section and cut it to any size you want. If you just wax it, it is quite rustic and would save you the cost of getting a benchtop made. It comes in two thicknesses and is 600mm deep. The piece that I bought was 2.4m long. Have a look at it, at least. Then if you have some other rustic pieces or even units with steel tops, it can tie the rest together. My vote is to keep the stove and get some rustic or industrial cup'd handles. A real farmhouse kitchen is a mix and match thing. My vote is for trying to keep the bench you bought as an island if you can. I would go for open shelves along the wall where the stove and fridge are and put the microwave on one of them. Maybe you could find some different tiles for behind the sink. I would rip those shiny ones off the wall and choose something that will fit in with your mix'n match rustic style, or just something quirky - even old wood. It all depends on how much money you want to spend and kitchens add up very quickly. If it functional and pleases your eye, then you are a winner. If the carcasses are still usable, it is much cheaper to just get new doors for them, when you can afford it. I wouldn't bother with window covering in the kitchen. I would just leave it for the light. Maybe a glass shelf across it with some herbs on it. It already sounds good to me....See MoreWhat paint colour would work with a charcoal kitchen island?
Comments (2)I actually think a mid-silvery paint would work well for the walls , and fit your brief , better than any off-white . Tied in with the charcoal and wood , it will look industrial , and you can add almost any tone of accessories and kitchen fittings , from blacks and wrought iron , to brass , copper , rose gold , and/or reds ,oranges , blues , yellows , most greens , etc ....See MoreJE C
