How to keep indoor plants dog proof?
Comments (3)Katie, I would first see if the dog was going to even bother an indoor plant by buying a good solid ceramic pot and buy a cheap safe plant reccomended by the nursery so that if the dog does destroy the plant then it didn't cost much. You could buy fairly tall pots that would require a bit of agility for the dog to touch the plants too. Ultimately, you could try to do a bit of "dog training" by placing the plant in the home and carefully watching the dog, firmly say "no" or "ahh" if he looks like he's going to touch the plant and if he backs away, then call him and reward him with either a long lasting treat or similar or even a cuddle or a toy. Boisterous can be just a bored dog, so plenty of positive training like you would if you had a child in the home that you wanted to keep away from the plant. Good luck....See MoreDo your pets sleep indoors or outside?
Comments (30)Cats indoors with the back verandah built in for them (snake mesh). I believe cats should be contained for their safety and that of wildlife. I am on acreage with nearest road/neighbour 1 km away - so for my cats it is really about the safety of wildlife. 2 small indoor dogs - mini dachshund and chihuahua. Indoors for their safety and they are a part of the family. 1 outdoor dog protecting livestock. I have always had dogs inside. I used to have larger dogs and they would be wherever I was, and outdoors when I wasn't home. I have had a lot of dogs... chosen and rescues/highway pickups. I have always heard the argument that it is not hygienic having them indoors.... and now I have had kids I can confidently say kids are far worse than dogs. My house used to always be clean and clutter free. Now I am constantly cleaning and tidying and telling kids to pick up stuff - and I might get 5 minutes a day where it looks like what it always looked like when I just had dogs!...See MorePets in the bedroom: unhygienic or acceptable?

Comments (6)Hi Eliot, MLV is a possible solution. Green glue is to be used between two gyprock sheets, so wont be an option if your trying to avoid an extra sheet. You could also a soundproof fibreglass insulation (eg. Earthwool Sound Shield, Bradford SoundScreen, Bradford Hi Performance Gold, Pink Batt also has some acoustic insulation options) and Soundcheck Gyprock (which is designed to be a greater density for this reason). Or you can use all options together if you desire and could spare the cost. If it is possible to doubble up on the plasterboard, this would be a better outcome usually as it creates a thicker layer helping to stop transmitting of sound. It's great that your getting your head around it first, but always a good idea bringing it up with your builder. If he has been around for awhile it is more likely than not that he has done some sound proofing and he has been on your project so there may be some site specific things that have not been accounted for (Even if they has not done this before, he has access to resources and trades to advise and provide a cost for the works at the same time). Also, they need to be aware of what your thinking and be able to let you know when he needs to know by. The later you approach them about it the more of a chance you will have increased costs resulted in undoing things they have already done to accommodate. Good luck with your renovation!...See MoreJo Freeman
