Desperate for help with our ugly house!
Comments (22)Render it MAYBE. Remove the orange bathroom tiles. Replace the rocks with a clean edge. Emphasise the vertical lines of the walls of brick and the vertical lines that the window can form, being one on top of the other. Vertical narrow pencil trees (? name) I think that God gave you steps for a reason. You might put narrow pencil conifers at the front corners of that, too. If you remove the steps, you will be broke, and you will replace them with an even uglier diagonal set of steps. There is no other diagonal on the house. De-emphasise the horisontal. So, if the windows are going to be different colours, have them match one above the other. Use curtains with wide stripes. Do not emphasise the horisontal lines above the windows or the floor of the upstairs landing. Have the edge of the concrete straight, and in line with the house. Get rid of that insipid ---- under, and around, the stairs. This house represents the jet age. You need it clean. Alternatively, don't worry about it. Save your money, or spend the money on an amazing experience. It is hard for a house to look amazing if it is below street level. That is why you do not see houses in magazines below street level (as far as I know.) If you save money so you don't have money worries, there will be more love in the house and that will be more important that the appearance. If you have children, they will not give a ---- about the decoration. At all!!!...See MoreReno desperately needed
Comments (8)Hi Karen, I'm not a fan of colourbond cladding...you could put some modern fibro weatherboards on instead. Also those downstairs posts look like they have been joined? You could definitely clad the underside of the verandah roof, would improve the look. Although I have left mine unclad for the foreseeable future. If you do clad, you might need to double check with a builder if those rafters are ok to hold the cladding as well. If not, treated pine noggins can be installed. The railing balustrade should match the deck as well....See MoreKitchen makeover ideas desperately needed!
Comments (14)Your kitchen looks like it may be original with the house and has had a number of makeovers since it was built. It looks like a builders kitchen, and probably not the highest quality with hinges and runners starting to wear out at a guess. You can't apply a two-pack finish to old doors that have been painted (and repainted) before and expect a perfect finish. I wouldn't buy new doors and drawer fronts in such an old kitchen, but look at upgrading all of the knobs to handles and repainting to work with the materials and colours that you won't be changing, such as the benchtop and flooring. Many kitchens have a life span as things wear out and technology changes. All of the little jobs and upgrades that you have described will be fiddly and expensive due to the labour content. Don't waste too much of your money on upgrades to this old kitchen but save up for a new one. A well designed, new kitchen will make better use of the space, and be designed to give you the storage you need, and house the appliances that you want to make cooking a pleasure. Comments (55)Ok. I am a little confused where to head. I need a future vision for all components of house and fence to make the little decisions. The pool blue tiles I love but not sure how to tie in with all the fences internal and external and with house especially if this green goes anywhere else ? But I have bought a " green paint" dulux scott's pine very similar to what was there but it is quite wet here so I stumbled on a photo edit option and have done an unskilled mock up on a photo and taken a photo of it in the meantime (as I couldnt work out how to save it!!! ) But although the green is lighter than actual paint I have bought I can actually (ok it has taken me a while) see how the green would work. But if I do that what would I do will both my green fence and my maroon fence from the outside. I also tried to track down junior navy and couldnt find that colour anywhere? I have slate in need of a little tlc inside front door which I love. I know for some people they find it hard to clean or dated. Its individual and I am beginning to subscribe to conscious consumerism. Lets be clear my house has had renos from some different eras so was and is going to be earthy but eclectic and individual in decorating style....See Moremacyjean
