A Designer’s Modern-Traditional Home in NSW's Southern Highlands
In this episode of Houzz TV Live, interior designer Jess Hunter takes viewers through her new-construction home in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. She shows how a galvanised metal roof, painted wood cladding and brick on the exterior ensured the architecture conformed to the heritage area’s rules. Meanwhile, an open layout and minimalist kitchen with black cabinets modernise the interiors.
Hunter also discusses how she used oversize pendant lights and a centrally located iron fireplace and chimney to create zones in the open-plan living areas. A polished-concrete floor was ground down to reveal the inner aggregate that Hunter specified, and which resembles an eye-catching dark terrazzo. Linen curtains and sofa help soften the surface in the living area.

Beautiful and so restful. I have to ask...where's the coffeemaker? Appliances get out of hand but since I am always cooking I'm hauling them out to the counter too often. I finally added a pull down hideaway at the end of my counter which sure helps! I have to be practical...it's my nature.
I think this might be my dream home. Can I move in? <3

Love the drama in this house. Couldn’t get the audio so perhaps it explained why the table was sometimes black and other times natural wood.

Breathtaking!! Such careful consideration of how all the materials play off of each other. It also looks like an easy life house. Nothing would be ruined by muddy paws. Sophisticated choices, very stylish. I'm sure the butler's pantry contains all the functional stuff. Great design.
