Coburg House

With the front of this classic Californian Bungalow already restored by the client, the brief was to reinvent the rear of the home as a beautiful and bright family space. The extension is a simple gable form rather than a standard “box on the back” approach. New kitchen, bathroom, laundry and living spaces were created by repurposing existing spaces and adding a small extension. Playing with ceiling forms made these spaces larger and lighter through carefully placed skylights. Timber cladding for the new exterior walls introduces interesting textures and shadowplay to the rear, complementing the classic Californian Bungalow form’s weatherboards and tying the home together.
