If the pool is salt use a salt cell with a reversible current electrode . This keeps the cell clean and maintains the efficiency of the cell. Also at the start of summer test the pool for buffer (cyanuric acid) and top up. Generally this only needs to be done once a year. This increases the efficiency of the chlorine in the pool . If you have plantings around the pool, clean surrounding hard surfaces of leaves to stop getting in the pool. I find this is easiest with a battery operated blower. Don’t forget to use your skimmer net as well.

"It is important to note that you can have crystal clear water that is unhygienic too." How can we tell water is unhygienic when it is crystal clear?

Pools need to be maintained winter and summer, not just the busy summer season. With new pools so much is automated these days but investing some time to understand chemicals in the pool and the right balance is not difficult given the investment you make in buying the pool.

Pool shops will check the water for you anyway if you take them a sample. They then recommend the addins and qty required.

On the issue of emptying pools, I did it once to repair tiles but it was in winter and I didn't have an issue except for freezing when woking in the remaining water.
