SHOWERS
What if we left the fixtures where they are and enclosed the front with glass and a door or sliders. Is it possible for us to creat the long drain over by the outside wall as this shows? Would have to put the niche on the fixture wall if it won't work on the outside wall. Perhaps a collapsible bench on the outside wall (install wood blocks to hold it before enclosing wall. Could we lengthen the shower by a foot (blanced on the other side by shelving)?
The roomy new shower stall is 6 feet 2 inches by 3 feet 6 inches. The homeowner had experienced this set of shower heads at a hotel, and they were one of her few must-haves. The polished nickel set includes a regular shower head, a rain shower head and a handheld wand. Ryder also incorporated a new bench topped with marble that matches the marble on the vanity. Benches like this are great for leg shaving and make the shower more accessible. Rain head not necessary. Bench top matches counter top. Note shower measurements.
5. Use a shower base instead of tiling the floor. Architectural designer Alison Strickland was not a fan of having to clean grout lines in the shower. So she used a shower base for the floor of her shower stall and designed the space around it. The ledge and the base seen here are made from a material called Krion from Porcelanosa.
Curbless shower with door at present location. Would move the fixtures to the east wall. Glass at end.
This shower configuration would work in our bathroom but not as a curbless shower.
Put niches on same wall as fixtures
Is that bench deep enough to be practical?
This might be a good configuration for the shower. However, fixtures would have to go on the East wall, not the outside wall.
Make the glass go all the way to the ceiling. Perhaps then can put the door on the long side.
Fixtures, bench and niche all at one end.
Configure side of shower/bench like this with entry at the end.
Mimic the shower ledge and a tub ledge?
Shower ledge idea?
A shower ledge is much more straightforward and requires a build-out of only a few inches into the shower space. Run it along the length of your shower stall, as designer Katy Popple did here, and you’ve got tons of space for shower essentials. Cap it with a piece of your bathroom vanity countertop material and call it a day. MIGHT WORK ON THE END WALL WHERE THE FIXTURES ARE. WOULDN'T WANT TO USE UP ANY MORE FLOOR SPACE ON THE SIDE. ACTUALLY, I WOULD RATHER HAVE A BENCH ON THAT WALL.
Another key feature in the shower is the shower handle, which Tyler positioned on the left wall so the homeowners don’t get sprayed with cold water when reaching in to turn it on.
Tyler created a feature band of vertically running tile that includes 10-by-16-inch tiles with strips of 2-by-12 pieces of the same tile. She surrounded this with 12-by-24-inch glossy white tiles. “This allows the mirrored tile to really stand out on its own without overtaking the space,” Tyler says. An ‘uh-oh’ moment occurred when the manufacturer of the mirrored tile called to say the company had changed its process and the undertones in the tile were creamier than before. Caren still loved the tile, but that meant they had to pick out a new floor tile to match the creamier tone. “It worked out well,” Caren says. “I love the floor tile. It has a little bit of texture to it so it’s not slippery at all.”
Put niche down low on end of shower as well as a small bench?
Designer Jamie Daniel of Boyce Design & Contracting created a spacious wet room in this master bathroom with a freestanding tub, a bench seat and multiple polished nickel shower heads with body jets and sprays. Mirrored marble mosaic tile runs from the floor to the ceiling along the wet room’s walls and on part of the shower bench, which has a white quartz top.
Should start looking at wider tubs in the 65-67" length range. 31-32" would do it.
This tub might be able to hold two since it is 31" wide.
Curbless shower, entry on side or end?
Age in Place: 10. Accessible Beauty This master bathroom in a waterfront condo was remodeled to allow the homeowners to age in place. Six Walls Interior Design and Potter Construction removed the soaking tub and created a new layout with enough clearance for a wheelchair. The shower entry (not pictured) is curbless, and the flooring is slip-resistant tile. The fold-down bench seat is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the space has sufficient room for a caregiver to assist. The natural stone shower walls have plywood blocking behind them so that grab bars can be installed in the future.

Might have to do this kind of shower pan rather than the roll in option. Where is drain?
Maybe tile the shower and left side, leaving the fixtures where they are now. It would balance the water closet that way.
Available in Brushed nickel and chrome. Not sure if I want nickel (polished or brushed)

Could do this shower if my sink remains where it is.
Could do this shower if sinks are on West wall.

Flip the picture and enclose with glass. Either side or end entrance.
This might work. If we can put the controls on the exterior wall.
This shower layout might work but would want the rain shower head to be in the middle of the ceiling. Can plumbing go on outside wall?
Note that controls, hand shower and bench are located in three different places. Also has the long drain. Wonder if it could be done with the base at floor level?
Shower layout?
3. Frameless Glass Shower Enclosure The practically invisible quality of clear glass can make the smallest of bathrooms and shower stalls feel much larger than they are. There’s no frame to catch the eye, and as a bonus, you won’t have to dig gunk out of it when cleaning.
Grab bars and long drain? Bench and niche?
Uh-oh” moment. “With this master bathroom, accessibility was a key component of the design,” she says. “A challenge that comes with that is creating a barrier-free entry. In order to overcome this hurdle, we cut, removed and planed existing concrete to provide the necessary slope of one-quarter-inch per foot, creating a barrier-free, zero-edge entry point. Knowing the end goal will be a wet room with ease of entry, and maneuverability in and out of the shower to accommodate an individual plus a caregiver, gives the drive to push forward without hesitation with design.”
Lowest cost if we leave the end wall.
17. Easy-reach shower controls. Reaching in to turn on the shower in the morning and getting hit with a cold blast of water is no way to start the day.
Vanity drawers. Sinks. Wall fixtures.
Shower entrance. Low curb clad in polished porcelain tile that mimics Calacatta marble; the same tile has been used for the main floor and shower floor. The curb also features a quartz top that matches the countertop. “We wanted as minimal of an entry as the budget would allow,” designer Taylor Minotti says. “We opted for matching the flooring material to the shower curb so it would blend in and the eye would move right past it.”
