Do you want to know what style of rooms current and future renovators, people building homes and those gathering ideas for revamps are looking for right now? We used our data analytics to find which photos were most saved by our community (excluding photos featured in editorial stories, so as not to skew the results).
To get the most relevant and up-to-date information, we specified photos that were uploaded by Australian professionals between 1 November 2018 and 1 November 2019. We then narrowed it down to photos our Australian users saved from 1 January 2019 until 1 November 2019.
What does it tell us about what our community of homeowners is seeking for a renovation or home improvement? Take a look to find out…

Most-saved kitchens
Here, we present the most popular kitchens this year, based on saves to ideabooks. And it’s striking how similar they are.
As seen in this kitchen by Blackburn Bathrooms and Kitchens, all embrace white as the foundation colour, with elements of contrasting black, commonly in accessories.

All feature generous island benches with in-built sinks and mixer taps, two in black, demonstrating the rise of hero tapware. A few open shelves – to display ceramics, plants and cookbooks – are also popular, as are streamlined bar stools. Simplicity with a Scandi flavouris in, fussiness is out.
Most-saved bathrooms
Meanwhile, the three most-saved bathrooms also show the extent to which we embrace neutral schemes in Australia. All feature large-format floor tiles in stone colourways. This one by Graham Jones Design is complemented by marble tiles, another is paired with white tiles, and two have simple timber cabinetry.

A trio of pendant lights seems to appeal, as does subtle splashbacks, with louder features taking a backseat.
This Start 2 Finish Renovations bathroom shows that when it comes to more decorative bathrooms, Shaker-style cabinetry with herringbone-laid (but still neutral) tiles, hold appeal for Houzz homeowners.
No matter what, the Houzz community seems to love a simple bathroom, and favours frameless-glass screens in walk-in showers.
Most-saved living areas
We like to ramp up the detail and personality in our living areas, while keeping things classic. Natural colours and materials are enduringly popular.

White walls remain close to our hearts, but we appear to have a fondness for statement chairs in a beautiful colour or mid-century style.
Storage for books and objets d’art features in this beautiful space. Statement lighting, be it in pendants or standard lamps, is also showcased. This Designtank room shows the creative use of shiplap cladding in a dramatic but serene colour.
Most-saved laundries
Our most popular laundries, as seen in this project, all feature black and white, with interest generated through splashback tiles (these ones have subway tiles laid vertically with dark grout) or contrasting joinery. Again, the look is simple and stylish.

Neutral-coloured floor tiles feature heavily, as do pretty and thoughtful touches such as hanging plants, vases and timber highlights as seen in this Corella Construction laundry. Also noticeable is the prevalence of black, steel-framed glazing.
Black grout features again in this Popham Interiors laundry, complemented by black joinery and door hardware.
Most-saved study spaces
Not forgetting the importance of a productive study/work space, our three most-saved images of study nooks show a love of Scandi style with open shelving, as seen in this Bask Interiors project.

Built-in desks with woven chairs and domestic touches are proving important in this admin space. This Hamptons-inspired space – with floating shelves and recessed lighting, by McDonald Jones Homes – has just the right amount of serenity in its palette.
With slightly darker desert-inspired colours, this Ioanna Lennox Interiors space hits just the right note.
Most-saved bedrooms
And when it comes to our private rooms, our most popular saves show we want a lightness of being, a real softness, in our bedrooms. White and timber are always popular, with texture providing interest.

Pale colours dominate, there is not a floral in sight, as evidenced in this slightly rustic bedroom.
This sleeping space by The Designory shows that when we do embrace colour, we like it to be gentle. Blue-green hues, woven accessories, and layered bedding always appeal.

Haha swizzles95, I like your strength-based approach. Feeling exactly the same - what a boring lot we are! And I’m including me in that sweeping statement as I saved one photo as I flicked through. My most memorable Houzz article was a colourful house in central north island, NZ. Full of personal touches, let’s be brave and flamboyant in 2020
