So Hot Right Now
Excellent selection on the fittings and murals. Makes this home look like a gallery. Prob cost a bomb though-looks to be all custom.
Slats are so in right now. However, I still think they can end up as a dust/spider farm. See if they stay in or if everyone realises and they go out?
About perfect for these parts. However, it's really sad that it would have cost prob over $700K (owners did a lot of work themselves) to get a functioning 3bed,1living house. Particularly like the recycled brick interior walls for thermal mass and as a feature.
Jun21 - hitting all the buzzwords in this build. Black taps, round mirrors, long shower grates, high ceilings, plywood ceiling lining at deck, battens battens and more battens. The result is spacious and attractive. Just enough colours and materials to add interest without making it look busy. Very good balance between the two. Still struggling with the mania for battens at present. They are damned expensive and am not convinced they'll weather well. From this article: Where did all the money ($1.4M) go? "The timber facade and the windows". Nuff said. Only thing I'm not sure about are the cantilever batten hats over the porches. Because they are forward of the rest of the house they are dominating and are far heavier than the entry inside them. Batten bunkers?
Apr21 - this is cracking gorgeous if you have a house large enough for an interior light well of that size. Magnolia tree is a fantastic choice also. She's deciduous so you get a choice of green, flowers, bare branches through the year and the leaf/flower fall should give it nutrients at ground level. Perfetto!
Hits all the current notes. The kitchen in the middle of the Living and Dining is a great idea if you are a single living area home. Gives a choice of two places to go. The only fl in the ointment of this one is that it's open at both ends so that means the loss of a wall of cabinets and no privacy between the two spaces. I would have gone with a wall to the living area; maybe not full height not solid but something that makes the two spaces separate. The stadium seating at the pool is a great idea if your levels allow it.
Popular kitchen styles Oct20 - inset overheads, acreages of island bars, feature wood cladding. 90% of the kitchens in Houzz wouldn't fit in a normal home, but can pick some ideas from these.
The "in kids" in bathrooms Aug20
All that wood cladding could well be a dusty uncleanable mess in years to come, but it sure looks good.
Aside from the micro kitchen (could have used just one more bench section), this reno is a winner. The budget is strangely good also. Am thinking the interior designer owner was able to pull in favours for that price. Kitty Lee Architecture - if I ever trip, fall into money, and need a design - will look her up
Jul20 an excellent now bathroom. Just a bit short on storage space. If they are two deep drawers, there's a chance everything can fit in there, but it's touch and go. Wonder if anyone makes round medicine cabinets. They could be done with an offset "seam" for the door and hinge on inside. Would look really cool
Jul20 - current trends
A number of good ideas for upcycling Ikea furniture, paint colours, wallpaper, ie decorations that if done right make all the difference without costing all the money. This one very well done. This is what an interior designer should be able to do, that is, find the colours, textures and finishes to lift a space.
