Room of the Week: A Terrazzo-Inspired Bathroom in Fremantle
Terrazzo paired with black tapware was the main inspiration for this pretty space in a renovated warehouse
In a Q&A format, we talk to the designers – and examine the creative thinking – behind some of Houzz’s most loveable rooms.
Brief
The client wanted to incorporate terrazzo tiles and colour. They have a loft apartment that had been converted from an old warehouse and wanted to maintain the industrial style, however give it a trendy vibe.
We looked at many different terrazzo-style tiles and settled on the Ergon Medley Pink Classic.
They also wanted an open/walk-in shower and to create a spacious ensuite in a small space.

Tell us about the feature ceiling (see first image)
The apartment is an old warehouse conversion and has a sloped ceiling. There was an original existing skylight with an exhaust fan built in. We relocated the exhaust fan to a better location and increased the size of the skylight to gain maximum light and create a sense of openness in the ensuite.

Thinking behind the arrangement of furniture/fixtures
The ensuite is a small space so we created a walk-in shower to give it an open layout and a larger feel; we used an in-wall cistern toilet and white flush buttons against the white wall tiles. We also choose an integrated concrete basin and benchtop with a wall-hung vanity.

Challenges you worked around
The height and slope of the ceiling meant we could only have a rail shower, where height of the showerhead is adjustable.
