Idea book for Kitchen update at High Lake Road
Goal: update kitchen with nicer treatment and more color, make fun and homey and create a space that we love to cook in.
Tasks/Items to change:
1. New solid countertops: replace ugly laminate with solid rock, dark, honed finish. Prefer local source rock celebrating Vermont such as honed Vermont soapstone with nice vein patterns. Black, green, dark purple...
2. Replace dropin stainless sink with under-mount cast iron, two bowl sink. Color to work well with countertop, not pure white.
3. Create new peninsula, possible with maple butcher block top, or continue stone countertop.
*needs to sit 3-4 people on stools on dining room side.
*needs design to store 12-16 bottles of wine (in open wine rack near sliding door to 3-season room?)
*needs shelving for cookbooks (on end?)
*needs open shelving for glass containers of grains, beans, rice, etc.
4. New lights: pendant lights over new peninsula (colored to add pop and fun in current way-too-vanilla interior??). Also new light over sink, and possible new pendant light over middle of open floor where we are thinking of putting a 18" x 24" John Boos end-grain butcher block.
5. new duel fuel range (most likely Bosch 800 series) to replace current range.
6. rip out under cabinet microwave and replace with chimney exhaust hood (250 cfm is plenty of air). Needs new direct vent to outside.
7. back splash around all counters (most likely continuation of countertop materials.
8. tile backsplash behind range and under hood, may extend to sink or other space for appropriate transition to sheetrock and soapstone/granite backsplash.
9. potentially replace composite tile floor with slate tile floor. Or more likely, keep current floor and add colorful "Folk Floor" with fun patterns (from East Thetford artist). If Folk Floor, most likely 6'x4' floor covering centered under butcher block, or 10'x7' covering pretty much all of open kitchen floor.

Honed granite with wonderful venation.
Lights
Arrangement of three pendant lights over sink.
Backsplash tiles - colors and size.
Floor and cherry counter top. Should we think about cherry for the peninsula?
Cabinets and counter top. But NOT the lights. Tile floor is a good possibility too.
Slate floor, painted cabinets, pendent lights and nice counter tops
Check out the colors and counter top, and the butcher block island. Work really well together.
The wood top. And farmhouse sink and counter top. Do not like the lights.
grooved countertop
Cabinet color, counter top and then butcher block. Very nice.
Color-mix of white and green cabinets
