The built-in cabinets in the dining room were constructed using the budget-friendly Bestå storage system from Ikea. Rogier added the shelves and trim.

2. The pull-out cosmetic drawer What could have been a wasted space is now a pull-out set of shelves that’s just right for toiletries that tend to float about in larger spaces.
Cool paint idea
I really do not like specifying less than 660 millimetres deep (under-bench) kitchen cabinets (width of bench top larger). The standard minimum is 600 millimetres and for me that is far too shallow for a number of reasons.
Television If you are wanting to mount your television on the wall, a good rule of thumb for the height of your powerpoint is 1.2 metres. Then, whatever height you decide to hang your TV, it will cover the powerpoint. Consider installing more than a double socket, as you may want to use a separate DVD player and separate speakers. TIP: Online streaming is the way of the future, so install an internet cable next to the powerpoint for your TV.
Power points for small appliances Small appliances, such as microwaves, rice cookers, slow cookers, juicers, and even coffee machines and toasters, are items my clients continually tell me they don’t want to have taking up valuable space on their kitchen bench. However, they don’t want to store them away either, which is why housing and using them in a butler’s pantry is the perfect solution. Instead of putting your regularly used appliances away after each use, keep them plugged in on the benchtop so they are always ready for action. TIP: Calculate how many power points you will need … then add more! You can never have too many.

Placing kitchen appliances in a tall pantry-style cupboard as opposed to a shorter but deeper cavity means you can space them out and maximising their usability. Sliding drawers within a cupboard that houses these ‘cook’s tools’ is also worth investing in to avoid the rotating of items to reach the device you’re after.
Cool idea
magnetic knife rack can be used for tools also
Shallow shelves and pull out draws- not too deep with open space at top
Add a crisp grid If you don’t have a large piece of art, or you want to try something different, work a number of small pieces into a grid arrangement. It’s important to use identically sized frames for this and to measure carefully before hanging! A theme for the art works well for this idea – collect photos in shades of blue, a collection of photos taken in the same place, all black and whites, and so on.
