Janedale - you can make the headboard with batons so it can be fixed to the bed with the same headboard screws supplied with bed. This is a headboard I made for my daughters bed at uni & she is still using it 2 years later - the fabric cover can be taken off for washing or if a change of colour is wanted

Another quick makeover is to paint furniture to lighten it up & to give a cohesive scheme

Making your own headboard needn't be that complicated. I just sew elastic around an appropriately sized piece of fabric and slip it over my headboard as I would use a fitted sheet. It's much simpler than using staples and I can take it off to launder it with my bedding. My headboard currently matches my curtains and I can change it in seconds when I fancy something different.

This is the headboard I attached to my bed which actually came from the inside of a queen size base bed. I then decorated with my favourite art pieces. Absolutely love it
