Throw rugs are a versatile addition to the living room, bedroom, outdoor area or even the nursery. They can be casually draped over furnishings to introduce a pop of colour or an enticing texture. And, when the temperature starts to fall, they can be wrapped around legs or used to create a little envelope of warmth with a friend. There are various styles and materials to choose from, so check out the examples below to see what works best in your interior.
1. Casual comfort
A throw rug can be introduced to complete a colour-coordinated space. The pattern of the yellow one here not only mirrors the geometric shapes of the coffee table but it also matches the splash of colour in the floor rug. The concrete floor and straight lines give the room a sleek ambience, while the throw and matching coloured cushion add real softness. What a great space to watch a late-night movie while snuggling under the throw rug!

2. Fluffy find
A mid-century armchair and clean, minimalist look give this space a Scandinavian feel. The addition of a soft, white sheepskin-like throw rug makes the armchair even more enticing. The throw is not made for wrapping around shoulders but to be sat upon, creating a comfy barrier between you and the cool-to-touch leather upholstery.

3. Country classic
This open-weave throw adds a textural and visual element to a room with an almost alpine feel. The plush sofa and rug work in counterpoint to the sculptural form of the throw, while the timber wall is softened by the warm and fuzzy aspect of this handcrafted piece.

4. Granny chic
It may be winter outside but it’s as warm as a hug from grandma in this welcoming living room. The throws have a textured, handmade charm while adding warm tones to the furniture. And, if you’re really feeling the chill, the soft red throw can be tucked around you while watching the wintery scene outside.

5. Vibrant vibe
White bedlinen and neutral walls are given a touch of retro drama with this geometric throw and colourful floor rug. The repeating colourway of orange and mustard yellow in the throw is mirrored in the cushion, creating a balanced consistency in the room’s decor. Plus, late at night when the wind is whistling outside, the throw can be pulled up to create an extra layer of warmth.

6. Neutral but nice
The walls in this dramatic bedroom show a riot of colours and geometric shapes, so the last thing the room needs is more colour on the throw rug. Instead, an understated and neutral one has been chosen and works beautifully. As a subtle touch, the texture of the rug matches the hanging light shade. There’s also weight and thickness to the throw rug, which ensures it’s not only tactile but it will keep those cold nights at bay.

7. Sophisticated style
Both contemporary and casual, this pared-back bedroom boasts plenty of elements. The simple throw rug is made from a soft, lightweight fabric, making it suitable for any season or decor. It can be spread over the bed or just as easily worn around the shoulders. Calm, elegant and refined, the room and the throw are pure classics.

8. Luxurious fur
This thick, tactile throw rug is perfectly suited to this ornate room. The plush carpet, the fireplace, the decadent throw … the coldest night would have little impact on this warm haven.

9. Window seat wrap
What a beautiful place to relax, read a novel or just watch the view. The throw rug is understated, mimicking the colour tones of the walls and the sofa fabric. It would be all too easy to snuggle down and lose a couple of hours in this magic spot.

10. Outdoor cover-up
It’s still possible to entertain outside when the weather gets cooler, and a well-placed throw rug or two will keep everyone happy. They look great strewn about the seating and are useful as well as decorative. As the sun goes down, guests can wrap up in a warm cocoon and keep the party going outside. But don’t forget to bring any throw rugs inside at the end of the night, lest they get damaged overnight.

11. Courtyard cosy
This exterior is an entertaining hub with a large barbecue and a wall-mounted TV. When the weather turns chilly, a few throw rugs allow people to keep interacting with the cook or finish watching the game. The vibrant hue of the throw pictured here complements the super-soft cushions as well as the geometric floor rug.

12. Nursery blanket
With a green motif running throughout the room, this nursery uses natural colours in a non-traditional way. The throw rug is handy to keep baby warm or to snuggle up with Mum or Dad on the big armchair. Of course, the rug is made of a soft material that’s gentle against sensitive skin.

@emerald0011,
Don't apologize, fake can never hold a light to real fur but you can have real without it being from an endangered animal, like rabbit or fox fur. I still have a full length black rabbit fur coat that belonged to my mum and have a photo of her wearing it about 70 years ago!! That reminds me, I must find a furrier who can do some mending on it!!
@emerald0011,
Don't think there will be too much if any crediible disaproval of harvesting these furs humanly. As a farmer, I have seen the horrific attacks that foxes can perpetrate on unsuspecting new born lambs and I think everyone on the land at least, was aware of what rabbits were capable of when they were in plague proportions, thankfully something that is under control almost everywhere nowadays. Strange no one thinks twice of rats and mice and they are vermin just like the fox and the WILD rabbit!!
I am an informed animal lover as most country people are and I wish you success with you naughty little want!! ha-ha
