If, however, you are only interested in your own sign, just follow the link at the end of the ‘Sign at a Glance’ overview to go to the story written for each individual star sign. We’ll kick off with the first sign of the zodiac, Aries.

Designing With the Stars: Aries
This is the first sign of the zodiac, which is fitting, since Aries love to be leaders. They are brave, bold and ready for anything. This forward-thinking nature of Aries also echoes their approach to decor and design; they are attracted to the clean lines of modern architecture. This provides them with somewhat of a blank canvas, which they are less likely to become bored with as they can change it up as takes their fancy.
Aries loves physical activity and most sports. The sign’s ruler is Mars (who is warrior-like) and this means that many Aries love physical battles, often in the less-bloody form of a good game of basketball or table tennis. This amazing multi-purpose gym should keep the active Aries happy for a while!
When winding down, those born under the Aries star sign prefer a darkish room. That said, Aries still like an intense colour and for this reason will choose a purple or maroon over black or brown. Purple reigns supreme in this modern sitting room. Note the elements of fire. As the red planet of Mars rules the star sign, Aries are inextricably linked with fire. The energy, colour and excitement of a flame perfectly mirrors their high-spirited nature, and those born under this sign will find a raging fire in the home very comforting.
Taurus at a Glance
Dates: April 20 to May 20
Architectural style: Contemporary and sophisticated
Character traits: Generous, dependable, stable, conservative, persistent, romantic
Likes: Being organised, luxury items, cooking, fine food and wine, quality, art
Dislikes: Insecurity, change (especially sudden), synthetic fabrics, throwaway items
Favourite decorating colours: Dark brown, dark green, tan

Designing With the Stars: Taurus
Taurus is a conservative and strong star sign and people born under it would enjoy furniture, and interior design in general, to reflects this. Pieces should be sturdy and traditional. As Taurus doesn’t like change, the furniture should also be well made, solid and built to last. Taureans are not ones to go in for fads or fleeting fashions either. They want things to last both functionally and aesthetically, so the style of furniture chosen should be reasonably conventional.
Taurus is ruled by Venus, who represents beauty and creativity. As such, Taureans are often serious cooks and therefore need a spacious kitchen, filled with appropriate chef’s tools. They want the kitchen to be an inviting place for family and friends to gather, as cooking marries their creativity with their interest in close relationships and family.
Those born under the star sign of Taurus are usually generous and dependable people who, while being down to earth, also enjoy material possessions and luxury. As they belong to an earth sign, Taureans are drawn to the colours of the earth. They feel at home among dark chocolates, chestnuts and cinnamon colours. Perhaps they remind them of cooking? A bedroom such as this one would be a very good retreat for a Taurean. It has a luxurious feel, due to the generous drapery and the layers of bedlinen, and comes in the favourite colours of the sign.
Gemini at a Glance
Dates: May 21 to June 21
Architectural style: Transitional and/or eclectic
Character traits: Sociable, curious, excellent communicators
Likes: Conversation, television and social media, spaciousness, objets d’art, geometric pattern
Dislikes: Boredom, sitting still
Favourite decorating colours: Yellow, lime green and pastels

Designing With the Stars: Gemini
Gemini is an air sign that has the image of twins as its symbol. As such, Geminis are often stereotyped to have ‘split personalities’, but this symbol just represents their ability to see both sides of a situation or issue. They are very curious so are well suited to an eclectic style. This aesthetic mixes old and new, East and West, and the luxurious with down-to-earth elements. Geminis love this look because they are incredibly energetic and need constant stimulation. This decorating style enables them to add and subtract things from their environment to keep their home design fluid.
As well as being friendly, Geminis have an innate curiosity and value knowledge very highly. To foster this interest, Gemini would do well to have a library, or at least room for a lot of books, in their home. They may even need additional space because Geminis are not likely to want to stick to just one interest. Their curiosity is wide- and far-reaching and likely to change often! They love nothing more than a good chat and are known to be social butterflies who make very interesting friends, so rooms should include extra comfy seating for when guests drop in.
This star sign is ruled by Mercury, the communication planet. This is apt because Geminis are excellent communicators. They are well suited to professions requiring good communication skills. They are often found in jobs like teaching, journalism and writing, which is why Gemini needs a dedicated area in their home for a study or office.
They are born multi-taskers and so, for this reason, should make sure they have a plethora of different filing systems or storage solutions for their many and varied projects. They are also prolific users of social media, so it may be worth creating a hub for technology and planning out how to house all the accompanying wires and little black boxes.

Designing With the Stars: Cancer
Cancer is one of the kindest and most caring of all the star signs. They are very nurturing to those around them and care greatly for their family and friends. For Cancerians, home is where the heart is. This is their sanctuary and they need it to be comfortable. For this reason, the country style (or a Hamptons look for the well-heeled Cancerian) suits them well. Think vintage lights, airy spaces, a neutral colour palette with blue accents and a mixture of textures.
Cancer is nothing if not sensitive. They are emotional and empathetic, and find it very easy to put themselves in other people’s shoes, as well as often taking on others’ emotions. This can be exhausting for Cancer, and they really need to practise self care so that they don’t become emotionally overwhelmed. A beautiful bathroom with a soaking tub might encourage Cancer to take some time out for themselves and relax.
A family gallery adorning the walls of the home would be comforting to Cancerians, who are natural parents and cherish their time surrounded by family members. This is why they would likely make their home as appealing to family as possible.
As well as current photos, their interest in history and sentimentality would have them display old photos and important documents from the past lives of ancestors.

Designing With the Stars: Leo
Those born under the sign of Leo never look back, so they are not particularly interested in old homes. Instead they are drawn to contemporary design, but nothing too cold and minimal. For this reason, a style that includes a bit of drama and sophistication will impress Leos – which is why they may be drawn to an interior design scheme reminiscent of Hollywood glamour. This style embraces many of the things that Leo loves – gold accents, opulence, statement designs, plush furnishing and more than a bit of glitz.
A home theatre could combine two of Leo’s great loves – drama and technology – in the one room. It would provide them with access to the theatrical world, all available through the use of clever gadgetry and the latest in technology. And a big theatre like this one with stadium seating lets Leos entertain guests too. It’s a win, win!
Leo loves to be surrounded by luxurious furnishings and would enjoy a lavish sleeping area in particular. They like many different textures such as velvet, silk, satin and suede. They also like a variety of materials mixed together to create an atmosphere of luxury. These could be glossy paints or lacquered surfaces, mother-of-pearl inlays or mirrored items.
Virgo at a Glance

Architectural style: Minimalism
Character traits: Practical, perfectionist, clean freak
Likes: Simplicity, order, natural materials

Designing With the Stars: Virgo
Those born under the star sign of Virgo like a minimalist decor and dislike being cooped up in a messy, dirty home. They are also known to be practical, well organised and meticulous people, although they can find it difficult to operate effectively in the middle of chaos.
As Virgos have an affinity for the outdoors, they should design and decorate with this in mind. The clean lines of this kitchen would appeal to Virgos’ aversion to clutter, and the close proximity of the natural world would calm their nerves when the kitchen is a little untidy.

Because Virgos don’t like to be gaudy, they tend to invest in beautiful, natural materials, rather than fill their spaces with ‘stuff’. Keeping artworks and knick-knacks to a minimum will soothe a Virgo soul, as will limited furniture. This bedroom is stunning in its restraint. It has a simplicity of design that can only help to foster a clarity of mind, which Virgos love.
Virgo is a very caring and nurturing star sign. People born under this sign are often huge pet lovers and should design with this in mind. A smart idea for a Virgo home with pets is a small, dedicated washing station. Put this in the garage or laundry to make cleaning the dogs much easier. It’s also a great place to clean off gumboots or messy kids as they try to bring their dirt into the house.

Designing With the Stars: Libra
Libra is the seventh sign of the zodiac and the first of the second half of the zodiac cycle. The image associated with Libra is that of the scales, and this represents the most prominent character trait of those born under the sign perfectly. Librans have a difficult time with decisions and love balance, so most will shy away from a strong, definitive architectural and design style. They prefer something moderate like a transitional style, which takes from both traditional and contemporary chic. This style enables them to explore their love of elegant lines and classic details, yet is not as prescriptive as a purely traditional style.
Librans love equilibrium. This can be achieved in the home by ensuring there is symmetry in the design of every room. In the kitchen pictured here, there is a real sense of harmony, due to the balanced cabinets and bench space on either side of the sink. Librans also like to double-up on appliances (two-drawer dishwashers, double-door refrigerators, two styles of oven) to achieve symmetrical aesthetics in the kitchen, while also being practical for entertaining.
Librans are often great thinkers and very interested in the arts. Their sign’s ruling planet is Venus and this is associated with dance, art and music. Many Librans are themselves very artistic and would likely love to have a dedicated space in their homes to explore these passions. Those who don’t want to create art themselves will still enjoy being surrounded by gorgeous works of art. Librans love to have beautiful things to look at and really appreciate the decorative touch of stunning artwork gracing the walls of their homes.

Designing With the Stars: Scorpio
Scorpio, the eighth sign of the zodiac, is one of the more misunderstood signs of the zodiac. Though they are known to be secretive and can be possessive and jealous, the flip side of these traits is that they are loyal and faithful and very trustworthy.
Scorpios are generally very private people who like to have a clean and organised home. They regard their home as their castle and need to feel that it is their sanctuary. Privacy screens such as this one would work well to make a Scorpio feel that they are protected from the world, even when they’re outside.

Privacy screens such as this one would work well to make a Scorpio feel that they are protected from the world, even when they’re outside.
Scorpios are fascinated by lighting configurations and different lighting schemes. The key for a Scorpio is to use various types of lights in different areas. They are attracted to the interplay of shadows as this appeals to their love of mystery and secrecy. Scorpios are interested in depth in a literal and metaphorical sense, and the shadows of lights reflect this deep interest. If they are renovating a home, they will do well to engage a lighting designer to achieve this.
Because Scorpios loves dim lights and private corners, black is a perfect decorating colour for them. Scorpios are fascinated with life and all its secrets. They are interested in the universe and black somehow speaks to this desire to understand the infinite on a very subconscious level. While it can sometimes be a difficult colour to decorate with, the key is to lift it with different textures like iron, wood and a variety of fine fabrics.
Sagittarius at a Glance
Dates: November 22 to December 21
Architectural style: Eclectic
Character traits: Adventurous, optimistic, spiritual, curious
Likes: Travel, philosophy, freedom, learning, nature
Dislikes: Responsibility, deception, inertia
Favourite decorating colours: Blues, purples and occasional brights

Designing With the Stars: Sagittarius
Sagittarians like to live a relaxed and comfortable lifestyle, and so don’t go too much for the clean lines of modern architecture, or the prescriptive style of traditional interior design. They are much more suited to an eclectic aesthetic, furnished with a combination of old and new pieces, plump cushions and many textures. They also love rustic elements in their home, such as reclaimed wood furniture, tin, iron and natural timber flooring. This style speaks to their love of the outdoors and nature, and appeals to their somewhat wild and adventurous spirit.
Sagittarians love to collect items from travels to display in their homes. A Sagittarian home is nearly always filled with a collection of things they find fascinating, and are often bright and cheerful as well. Their choices for furniture and decorations are usually personal and meaningful, and an eclectic style allows them to curate pieces based on this meaning, rather than the unity of style in a space. They are also optimistic and spiritual and love to feel free and independent; they hate to feel constrained and this can lead them to be a little untidy.
Sagittarians have a very expansive view on life and this is reflected in their love of nature and the outdoors. They crave wide open spaces and love to visit or live in the country. Sagittarians, however, also love all the excitement that a city has to offer and so should try to stay near a regional centre or city, if they decide to go for a full tree change. Those born under this sign are probably best suited to living in the city and escaping to the country when possible.

Designing With the Stars: Capricorn
Capricorns are conservative by nature, but while they take life quite seriously, they often possess a dry wit with a good sense of irony. They can use deadpan humour to be very funny.
This living room should appeal to Capricorns. It has the balance and symmetry of traditional interior design. People born under this star sign would no doubt appreciate the cosy warmth of the fireplace and the historic details of the fireplace surround. The chandelier also adheres to the traditional aesthetic and creates a room of warm elegance – the perfect environment for a Capricorn.

The chandelier also adheres to the traditional aesthetic and creates a room of warm elegance – the perfect environment for a Capricorn.
Like their symbol the goat climbing a tall, rugged mountain, Capricorns are adept at setting high goals and then working methodically towards them. They usually achieve great success in their careers, even if it does not present itself immediately. Eventually, their focus and perseverance will lead them to their goals.
Capricorns benefit from having a dedicated office in their home to pursue this work. They are organised and practical, so a fit-out with detailed joinery will help them to create the sense of order they need to pursue their objectives.

Capricorn’s ruling planet is Saturn – a planet deeply associated with time. People in this sign can express this association with time through a love of history, or a love of antique pieces. Such items also work very well with traditional architecture and design, so they may feature several pieces in their homes. Being reasonably conservative,
Capricorns are also drawn to earthy colours like browns and neutral creams, but they also like green shades and can skilfully combine these colours for a very soothing palette, as seen in this welcoming dining room.

Designing With the Stars: Aquarius
Aquarius has the image of the water bearer, but is actually an air sign. This paradox is a symbol of the many contradictions in the Aquarian character. So while Aquarians are great humanitarians and care deeply about other people and the human race as a whole, they are also fiercely individualistic and dance to the beat of their own drum.
They prefer a contemporary style of architecture that relies on interesting aesthetics and is born out of functional, modern living. Progressive Aquarians are also well suited to the use of contemporary materials in the home, as they mirror the paradoxes inherent in the Aquarian character. People born under this sign would do well with materials such as glass, concrete, metals, vinyls and aluminium. In the open-plan room here, the juxtaposition of the heaviness of concrete surfaces with the lightness of glass and warmth of wood is very modern and contemporary.

Aquarius is probably the most tech-savvy of all the star signs. When able, they’d like to fit their homes with the latest in technology. This may range from a new computer to a full home-automation system. Many Aquarians would love the high-tech sophistication of a car stacker, or maybe a turntable inside a garage or on a driveway. This sort of setup would be a wonderful home for a new innovative electric Tesla car, for example. Perfect for Aquarius.
As an air sign, Aquarians like spaces to feel airy. They love big, open windows to create this aesthetic. It is best for Aquarians to avoid using window treatments – especially ones that are heavy and obscure the view. They also love a big, open-plan living area and will be drawn to tall atriums and void spaces. One way of achieving this is to keep furniture sparse; and it is important not to clutter an area with knick-knacks. Aquarians are realists and don’t go in for a lot of fussy detail.

Designing With the Stars: Pisces
Pisces is the 12th and last sign of the zodiac. The symbol of the sign is two fishes swimming in opposite directions, and many Pisceans feel a natural connection to, and love for, the sea. For this reason, they are well suited to a beach cottage design style. They love to be near water and if they can’t achieve this, should surround themselves with beach or marine-related trinkets and architectural details.
People born under the sign of Pisces are easy-going. They like things to be casual and comfy, so they should go in for big, deep and comfy sofas that are scattered with soft cushions, complemented by a sisal rug underneath the feet. Pisceans want nothing too precious in their homes.
Pisceans might also like to recreate favourite holiday spots and decorate with treasures they have collected on trips to the seaside. Shells and starfish make for beautiful collections, and when displayed well can really help to create a casual, beachy feel in a home.
Pisceans might also like to recreate favourite holiday spots and decorate with treasures they have collected on trips to the seaside. Shells and starfish make for beautiful collections, and when displayed well can really help to create a casual, beachy feel in a home.
Pisceans are usually intuitive, compassionate and emotionally intelligent people, who feel empathy easily and have a lot of affection to show to the people and animals in their lives. They have a natural affinity with fish and other water creatures, so incorporating an aquarium into the home, or a pond in the garden, can be very beneficial for the Piscean homeowner. This one has been subtly created within a paved pathway – it’s both creative and beautiful.

I am a Capricorn and the description of us is pretty well spot on !
I'm a Virgo and you consistently get it wrong with the 'minimalistic, plain, simple' emphasis... I'm (and I believe other Virgos as well) a romantic, dramatic (bold taste), always 'outside the box', love creating atmospheres .. Though being orderly/clean/authentic with materials is v important too ..
not my post sorry, I was just commenting on it. Just a bit of fun I thought
