Good point about the wainscoting, also its in the detailing of skirtings, cornices, and window exterior trim.

Yes, and some sort of ceiling treatment - raked, tray, beams, shiplap. Hamptons homes usually include most of these ceiling treatments in some form and quite often combine a ship-lapped raked ceiling with exposed beams.

There are many variations on what makes 'Hamptons-style' but even in the Hamptons, they are not at all consistent. For my money, a home is Hamptons if it is tasteful with a neutral palette, has white woodwork, and a laid-back, coastal style preferably with linen-draped couches that make me want to sleep in them after swallowing oysters. But each to her/his own!
