I have done that with my kitchen a few years back (sorry I don't have a picture with me at the moment) and I also took it up to the window sill. It's been at least 5 years - maybe more - and the kitchen still looks new. I have laminate cupboard doors and drawers, so I can change that at any time for a fresh look, but the basics are there - and I did stone tiles on the floor so it is really quite a blank canvas to work with. Colour comes from appliances, pictures/photos, decorative bowls, plants on the wndow sill, tea towels etc
