With summer on the cards, I will definitely be making the most of our verandah. Even thinking about investing in a hammock!

These verandahs make me want to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea to watch the world go by.

REPLICA QUEENSLANDERS WITH EXCEPTIONALLY TALL STAIRS.
Verandahs are the best.....but...sometimes they are at the top of a very long staircase. With oldies and little children in mind and people renovating these tall old Queenslanders or especially building replicas...what solutions for grannies, mums carrying shopping bags and little kids...and the bigger kids trying to get up these stairs on their own...or wanting to go racing down into the yard to play....I SEE DANGER.
REPLICA
Looking at a replica old Queenslander built nearby and wanting to welcome the new neighbours when they moved in I wondered....These kids are going to have a family and mum will be carrying bags of shopping up those tall stairs...and babies and older children will want to go into the garden to play....

Does anybody know if there are any building codes to cover exceptionally tall stairs that are the only access to the front door or back door?

The particular replica Queenslander has a very steep tall staircase on the exterior of the rear of the building.
It is semi enclosed with slats on the outside but was straight up, no landings, nowhere to rest, nowhere to put things you are carrying down for a bit.
I struggled to reach the top.
What are the 'rules' for landings on tall external staircases? One every 8 steps? Every 10 steps? Less?
What are the rules for tread widths and height?
Somebody?
