Number 8 (Glasgow) is lovely,such a welcoming winding entrance and very natural looking.
I'm not a fan of staged levels such as number 6-to me rockeries should place star emphasis on plants then secondary emphasis on the complimentary rocks.
As the first comment says, they should be well buried in order to look natural.
I found number 8 to my liking because of its natural feel. I think living in Australia has me appreciating a more random, less planned look much as we see in nature here. An untamed element, I think.
I agree no.8 appeals to me and I am Australian. I like large boulders swathed in soft plants tumbling together on a slope.
