I have the same victorian house configuration and I hate the idea of a middle kitchen - think its insane idea w/ young kids - extends the overflow of food mess (and toys) to both sides and noise/smells - you have kids running in and out when trying to cook which is dangerous and also you have to carry food through your living /dining space if you want to have a BBQ which would be a pain. And I’m not keen on hearing cooking noise when trying to relax w/ book / tv show in the living room. Also am not a fan of placing the kitchens in the front (ie the traditional front living room) but if I had to pick thats the lesser of 2 evils….

…clearly families that choose this option do not have young children.

We are starting a renovation and planning an internal courtyard. While we could do with the space internally, we’ll be bringing natural light and greenery into the middle of the house to be enjoyed from multiple zones. We feel the trade off will be worth it for the overall all feeling and, hopefully, contribution to well-being.
Would love to see some examples of these done well.
