Cornices are acceptable in old buildings but most architects opt for set corners or shadow line in modern buildings. When a buyer is looking at open houses it is a safe bet if cornices are present no architect was involved in the design. Just because the promo for a sale says "architecturally designed" is no guarantee an architect was actually involved.
